Ladies, I'm going to lose my mind
If you saw my post yesterday, here's a follow-up.
The culture came back with "a few colonies that grew overnight" so they want to do ANOTHER bag sample on her today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They don't want to do a catheter if not necessary b/c of risk of infection (which I spoke to my sister, a nurse, and she agrees that there are serious risks of infection with a catheter).
My girl is going to be a wreck over this AGAIN....refusing to pee in it, not drinking anything, and yesterday she made herself throw up b/c she was so upset.
wish us luck
ETA: I told the nurse on the phone that I want to speak to the doctor first before we do it...b/c I want to know the gameplan. What if today's culture comes back with the same answers as yesterday's? What's the gameplan? I don't want them to then say "let's wait and see what happens"...I am by NO means in a hurry to put her on antibiotics or do a catheter, but I want an answer!!

Are you doing the bag at home or in the doctors office? I wouldn't want to cath her either....
If you can do the bag at home... give her a bunch to drink BEFORE you put the bag on... and then try and watch a fun show or maybe go get a new movie or something to make this less traumatic and then bring the urine sample in to the doctor.... They should be able to show you how to do it yourself
Doing all of this in an unfamiliar settiing just makes things soo much worse

How long before the bag is on can she drink a lot w/o peeing? That's my fear, that I pump her full of fluids before she's on to what's about to occur, and her peeing in the diaper before the bag's on.
We've done it all...sitting at the doc's office with the bag on...then leaving for hours to return when she pees, etc.
I'm going to print some NickJr stuff to bring for her to do if we try to wait at the doctor's....coloring pages, stickers, etc. We can even walk into the other stores in the shopping plaza to try to distract her from the fact that the bag's on there. But she's just so darn smart that she KNOWS it's on her and it's like she's humiliated and refuses to help the situation along....she KNOWS that as soon as she pees in it, we get to go home. Totally gets that, but still refuses to pee
We're going later this afternoon so I guess we'll try waiting it out at the doctor's office or walking around the shopping plaza....otherwise the doc would possibly be closed for the night by the time we got back there with a full bag if we went home, KWIM?

I load her up on liquids like 20-30 min before she gets the bag on..... they don't need that much urine... Give her her favorite drink.. even if its naughty! LOL...... IF she drinks a tong she will eventually have to pee they can't hold it forever.
Try and make the coloring project really exciting and she'll pee
Hugs to you! I know how hard this is and cathing them is horrible.. I use to have to do it to babies and it broke my heart

My girl only drinks water or milk, I'd bribe her with a milkshake if I could but she won't drink it!!
Ok, maybe I'll try to load her up on liquids in the car on the way over, I'm just always so nervous she'll empty before the bag is on.
Yeah, she had a catheter when she was 1 and it was definitely tough...but honestly almost easier than what the poor thing goes through now b/c she stresses herself out over the bag.
Thanks

Oh no - what does this mean exactly? What did the dr. say?
Is there any way C will drink a big cup of juice right before she knows that she's going to the drs. office?
what time is she going back?
lots and lots of prayers!

Re: Ladies, I'm going to lose my mind
I agree with Maria. Give her a big sippy cup on the way to the dr. If she drinks the entire thing chances are she will HAVE to pee once the bag is on. Demand that they put it on her as soon as you walk in.

Re: Ladies, I'm going to lose my mind
Is there a way you can change her diaper and secretly get it on her?
We had to do one with Bella when she was a tiny baby...so I'm not sure how it's done now that they are older...
but if there's a way to distract her when you're putting on a new diaper, would she know?
Just trying to help

We will demand they do it right away, definitely (though I wanted to speak to the doctor prior to doing anything, but I may forgo that just to speed the process up).
I made DH do that yesterday, demand they put the bag on right when he walkd in, and they did.

I've got to find out more info today, they haven't been very helpful with providing info unfortunately.
We're going at 4:30pm today; DH & I are both going. I just printed a ton of activities from NickJr's website from Dora, Max & Ruby, etc that will HOPEFULLY keep her entertained/distracted.
She doesn't drink juice or anything but milk or water, so I'll see how much I can get in her before.

No, unfortunately she definitely knows what they're doing. They have to fully cleanse the area first, then they have to attach the bag to her with the sticky adhesive on it...she definitely knows when that's happening, and then she feels it in her diaper. It's a pretty big bag, you know.
I didn't know Bella had one when she was a baby

I agree with this!!!! It could say the same exact thing. I agree about the cath as well....I would want to avoid that. Does your DD understand why she has to do this?
