ladies talk to me about an iui with injectables

So, I did 150 mg of clomid and I am not responding so far. My dr. wants to wait a few more days to see if anything starts to develop but if not he wants to move onto injectables. He also mentioned IVF which I am praying we don't have to do because we don't have coverage for that.

What types/names of meds are usually given?
how long do you take ?

and is there anything else you can share about an iui with injectables

its different for everyone but with injectables you will most definitely take an FSH shot, usually follistim or gonal-f. when your follies are mature you would most likely take ovidrel. these are the most basic of injectables that would cover you for basic ovulation induction. there are many other injects depending on your specific fertility issues.

gonal/follistim are like kiddie versions of injectables - it comes in a "cute" pen style - so it doesn't look like a scary syringe. you spin the bottom part of the pen to your dosage. the needle is small and it goes in your belly under and to the left or right of your belly button. this med will mature your follicles. too much will cause hyperstimulation and too many eggs (for IUI you don't want this, for IVF you want many eggs). the dose can be adjusted daily or every few days by your RE.

ovidrel is a regular syringe, prefilled to the correct dose. you use this in the same way you would use gonal/follistim, except you only use it once. it is the "trigger" shot that causes you to ovulate once your eggs are mature. your RE would tell you when to take it. you would have your IUI done somewhere between 12-36 hours after trigger, or twice if your RE does back-to-back IUI.

Flowerwife pretty much said it all!!

I did femara alone the first round and got a BFN.

Next round we did femara and follistim. I believe I took the meds for 5 days and the injections were every other day. Then I triggered with the ovidrel. I then went for back to back IUIs the following 2 days.

If I remember correctly we had 4 mature follies and 1 smaller one the day before trigger. I now have twin 7 months olds

Thanks, I am still holding out hope that clomid will work. I don't understand why for dd clomid worked and now it won't. Its so frustrating. I am going to look into all the info you girls gave to me, thanks again.

I responded to both clomid and femara but the gonal to give me more follies (I got 2 more). I have heard of some people not responding to clomid and femara but they respond once they add the injectables.
