Ladies who delivered at Winthrop... can you tell me about it?!

I delivered at LIJ with DS#1.

I am delivering DS#2 at Winthrop in August.

Would love to hear your experiences...

Do they allow visitors (my parents, son and my sister) in the labor and delivery room AFTER baby is born, but before you are moved to a room?

How strict are visiting hours? 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. - 4 visitors per patient?

Thanks!

Hey Christine! I delivered at Winthrop but I was a csection so I can't tell you about l&d but on the floor my nurses were great!! I had my own room my first 2 nights so the nurses didn't bother too much with my visitors as long as they were quiet. I did have more than 4 at a time. I don't remember how strict they were on the 8pm ending because the only one with me at that time would be Chris. I did have visitors come before the 1 pm start and noone said anything either.

SIL delivered there this year. Visiting hours didn't seem so strict - at 8pm no one came around to ask us to leave. Also, DH, DS (under 1 year old) and I went in without any problems. No one asked us not to bring in DS and a few nurses saw him etc. They seemed very nice etc, BUT I have to say that there seemed to be very little security. It seemed to me so easy for someone to go right up, no one stopped us or asked for a pass etc. up on the maternity floor.

I delivered there almost a year ago. I gave birth in the middle of the night, so there was no one there to begin with. They did not enforce strict visiting hours or the number of visitors and there were other kids there. My nephew was born there 3 1/2 years ago and it was much stricter then. Overall, I had a great birth experience there both times.

LOVE the nurses at Winthrop!! they really are amazing. I had a c/s so obviously no one was allowed in after.

visiting hours are 1-8 unless immediate family.

when i was there in october 2009 i was allowed 4 visitors. when my sister was there in april 2010, only 2 were allowed because of the swine flu. im not sure if they changed their policy, but it was strictly enforced.

I had a c-section and was very sick from the anesthesia. They wouldn't let my family see me until I was up in my room about 2 hours after delivery. When my SIL delivered vaginally (3x), we were allowed in the delivery room right away... before they even cleaned up.

Visiting hours were pretty laid back... a little TOO laid back IMO. My roomate from hell's family/friends were in her room WAY passed 8pm every nght. DH complained to the nurses every night bc I was nursing and chose to keep the baby with me. Not only were they there late, they were BLASTING music from their laptop. UGH, this is bringing back horrible roomate memories! lol

Hey you!

I had K there. Obviously that was almost 4 years ago, but I had a great experience! I paid for the single room, and I was right by the nursery door. It was great- but a little distracting only because all night long, all I heard was babies crying! :(

Sara had her baby there in December and they were great! She had a private room because they weren't full when she was there. They were not strict about the 4 person limit.

When I had K, a security guard came around at 8pm to tell everyone it was time to go home.

L&D was FANTASTIC! (I should know, I was in L&D for 4 days!! Chat Icon )
