Ladies who have had plastic surgery (or med professionals)
If you were on hormonal bc, were you encouraged to discontinue it prior to your surgery to reduce your chance of blood clots? I am having a tummy tuck (and, ahem, some other stuff done :/). I am on nuvaring. The nuvaring website says to remove nuvaring a month before elective surgery. In my research many PS's advocate this and many (like mine) feel its unnecessary...I would hate to take it out and start over with the mood swings and spotting but am getting paranoid about clots. I am not overweight or a smoker and went through an entire triplet pregnancy with normal bp so am not high risk for a clot...just wondering what others did or wondering what advice any docs/nurses had. Thanks!

Not a med professional, nor have had plastic surgery but I am a DVT and PE survivor.
I wont comment on the hormonal BC portion, since I dont think anyone should be on hormonal BC.
But in regards to the surgery portion, ask for IPC (intermittent pneumatic compression) for your legs for during surgery and in the recovery room - and until you're up and walking at least every 2 hours. They are automatic sleeves they put on your legs and inflate/deflate every few minutes to ensure blood keeps flowing thru your legs and doesnt get stagnant.
Don't cross your legs and do heel toe and foot circles to keep blood going. Keep hydrated and don't wear tight clothing.
Good luck.

I had implants. No, I did not have to stop the pill or anything.
