Ladies who have had UV Gel Nails - ? (a bit long)

If you had or have UV Gel Nails, how long did they last between fill-ins?

Is it normal for your real nail to start to peel away from the white after the first few days?

I spent $80 getting a full set two weeks ago. Within the first week, the gel totally peeled off one nail, and within a few days later, 2 more went.

I thought that salon did a crappy job, so I went somewhere new for my 2-week fillin. Since they were so bad, I had to pay $100 for a new set. I did this on Saturday, and yesterday (3 days later) I noticed that 3 of my real nails are starting to peel away from the white part at the tips.

Is this normal? Are UV Gel Nails not as durable as acrylic?

I'm bummed that I spent so much $$ and they are starting to fall apart so quickly again.

Maybe gel nails just aren't for me. Chat Icon

I actually had the opposite experience - I was able to keep mine for OVER a month!

The nail was still perfect, I only had to get a fill in because of the growth! I kept them on for six weeks the first time and that included a week on my honeymoon!

That should not be happening! I had that happen alot to me when I used to get mine done in NY. I could NEVER find a good place to do them without them lifting. Since I've moved (Out of NY), all they do is UV and solar nails here and they last me up to a month without cracks or peeling!

Where are you going?

Wow, I guess I'm just having bad luck finding a good salon.

The first place was on 110 by the mall. I called around, and they charged the least ($80) for a full set. I wasn't happy with how they came out at all.

The second place was Kozy Nails. I think they look MUCH better than the first time I got them, but I paid a lot more. I'm just disappointed about the lifting. They charge $45 for a fill-in, but if you need the white re-done, it's $75. They charged me $100 since they pretty much had to re-do them from scratch.

I decided to treat myself for the summer, since I just paid off my car. Chat Icon But now it's costing more than I thought. Chat Icon

Where do you live? Maybe someone can suggest a place nearby? Those prices seem high too. The only places I've ever spent that much was when I'd get mine done in the city. Chat Icon

I live in the Huntington area. Last weekend I had my (very patient) DH drive me up and down Jericho Turnpike so I could scout out all of the nail salons and write down their names. Chat Icon

(Well, we were already on Jericho, I just told him I was on a mission and needed to find a good place.)

i had the same experience with UV Gel nails! i went to one place and the NEXT DAY they started lifting from my real nails. i went back and had them fixed and the same thing happened! i demanded my money back and was banned from the nail salon!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

so i thought the place did a sh*tty job and i went to another salon.. SAME THING! i finally went back to my regular salon where i get manicures and she told me that... get ready... if you have oily skin or oily NAIL BEDS (???? who knew) the UV Gel wont stick to your nails!! so basically told me that theyre not gonna work for me. how weird!?!? maybe this is the case for you.

When I had them, they NEVER peeled. I even went to Costa Rica and did all kinds of crazy stuff with them on and they lasted. I had fill-ins every two weeks.
They were a b!tch to take off!

I got them done at Meridian in Commack. (on Jericho)

Slightly-Taller - Maybe that's the case with me too. I just hate having to spend so much money to find out!

On a side note - I'd be mortified if I was ever banned from a nail salon, but I'd also find it kind of humorous. I mean, it's not like there aren't 30 other nail salons in a 5 mile radius I could go to. Chat Icon

Maybe I should consider going here next. Perhaps the 3rd time will work! I will definitely keep this place in mind for my next fill-in. Thanks!
