Ladies who took Metformin
I was put on Metformin and was not technically insulin resistant (though I do believe the Met contributed to me becoming pregnant once I was on it). As soon as I got my BFP, I was told by my RE to stop taking it. I have been doing some reading and many women claim that women who stay on the Met after their BFP have a lower rate of miscarriage.
My question is, do you think for the ladies who are IR, is that why they stay on the Met for at least the first trimester? If you are not IR, then is it "safer" to be off of the Met? I am also taking progesterone supplements since I am still under the care of my RE..
I feel like if something happens and I was not taking the Met, I will always wonder if I should have stayed on it

Re: Ladies who took Metformin
I think it's mostly for women who are already IR who stay on it. I was told to stop the Met as soon as I got my BFP, and I'm 31 weeks pregnant with no complications! Also, after my m/c, they would not let me start back on the Met until my beta was all the way down to normal levels.

Re: Ladies who took Metformin
I stopped it around 16 weeks, and I was not IR. My RE told me to stop at 8 weeks, but like you I didn't feel comfortable. I called my OB who said to stay on it. I don't know if it made a difference, but it gave me some peace of mind. I do have to say all my stomach issues went away after stopping met, which was wonderful.

Re: Ladies who took Metformin
I took it the first time with DD. I didn't end up taking it this time - but was going to go on it if I didn't get pregnant (it helped to regulate my period). You will get a lot of different opinions on this. I saw a HR at cornell with DD and ended up going to a group at columbia who kept me on it for a while. Out on the island some of the OB's were quick to try to take me off of it. There is research that shows that some women benefit from taking it thru at least the 1st trimester b.c it can reduce the risk of miscarriage in those who need it. Past that seems to be a huge variance on how long the dr's think you should take it.
Have you spoken with a HR OB or your regular OB and see what they think?

Re: Ladies who took Metformin
I have PCOS, and was put on Metformin, Dexmethasone, and Clomid (luckily, with DD we conceived on first try; DS first try with that combination);
I stayed on Metformin during the first trimester with DS; and chose to not stay on it with my second (DD) and was fine.
I have no insulin problems, but MDs assumed it would be difficult for me to conceive due to the PCOS.
