Okay GD Ladies..another question! Anyone have any experience with Glyuride?

My Dr. is not happy with my fasting numbers (no matter what I do I can't get them within the correct range) In almost 3 weeks I've only had one number in range and even that was on the higher side.

She is recommending starting me on Glyuride to help.

Anyone have any experience with it?

TIA!

Re: Okay GD Ladies..another question! Anyone have any experience with Glyuride?

i had GD twice and was on insulin for morning numbers. i only heard of oral medication when my SIL was pregnant last year and was diagnosed with GD as well. had her numbers not been controllable with diet, her dr. would have suggested medication. i was Chat Icon to hear someone prescribing oral medication because from what i understood the whole point of taking insulin was so that medication would NOT pass to the baby Chat Icon. further questioning of this made me aware that some dr.'s have started this "new way" but the safety of this is still being debated in the medical community.

personally, had my dr. suggested oral medication, based on my previous research i would have declined and continued the insulin therapy. for me, oral medication for GD is "too new" and i don't want to be a guinea pig. i would just get additional information from your dr. and take it from there...

Thank you.. it was my Dr. that suggested the oral medication. I do trust her as she is very conservative and also not one to quickly use medication of any type unless absolutely necessary. My sister is a Dr. so I've asked her to call me later to give me her views on it.

The high risk Dr practice she has me also going to has suggested it (at a low dose), and I have a consult with them at my growth sono next week.

It's also my morning numbers...the rest of my numbers are pretty much okay (one or two days out of range, but only by a point or two). My morning numbers range from 98-115.
