Ladies with cats
I have 2 cats.
My female is the best. She keeps to herself and never does anything that would be considered bad.
My male on the other hand is very territorial, gets into everything and must claim everything as his.
My question is if you have a cat like this how are you planning on keeping him out of the crib and basinett?
I know the obvious is shut the door but anyone with cats know they can be sneaky and get in. Needing some ideas.

Re: Ladies with cats
i have a female cat who acts like your male cat.
right now dh and i live in a one bedroom apt and we have been keeping the door closed all the time to train her not to be in here. when the baby sleeps we plan to keep the door shut and have a baby montior out in our living room to here the baby if we arent in the room at the time.
when we move and the baby has his/her own room we plan to do the same. im scared to leave the cat alone with the baby. my vet told me to spray her with a water bottle everytime she does something we dont want her to do, but i feel bad doing that to her i did do that when she would claw the couch and i have to say it worked. so i might try that again. i know im a horrible cat mommy
hope i was some help. good luck

Re: Ladies with cats
Thanks. I tried the spray bottle with my cat for the first 2 years of his life and let me tell you he did not give a crap. LOL
He would wait 2 minutes and go back to doing whatever he was doing.
I am not sure what his problem is. I am nervous about him though.
I heard there were some kind of crib screens. I hope it's true.

Re: Ladies with cats
My cats don't seem to interested in the crib. They have jumped in the pack-n-play a couple of times. A friend of mine said her cats were all in the crib before her baby was born, but they never go in there when the baby is in it.
You can also get a crib tent which keeps the cats out. Here's a crib tent on Amazon

Re: Ladies with cats
I have two cats - we kept DD in our room in a bassinet (we had it set at the highest level). When DD was in the bassinet the cats were kept out of the room with the door closed. We did have some issues with the cats scratching at our door at night since they usually sleep in the room with us in the past (they are 11 years old). If they did sneak in when we open the door they were picked up and taken out.
During the day they have free reign of the house - but at night they were just excluded from our bedroom so the rest of the house was free territory. When DD was moved to the crib her door remains closed when she is in the crib but we now leave our door open which makes the cats happy. We have never had a problem with them getting in where they weren't wanted at night. For the most part they would rather be with us than with DD so that helps. You just need to be aware of where they are at all times so that you know if one of them gets into the baby's room or not.
The BIGGER worry you will have is when your child is mobile and decides that they LOVE your cats. DD has been chasing ours since she was crawling around 6.5/7 months. Now she runs up to them and shouts - cat soft, or cat nice and tries to pet them. I try my best to keep them in a different area from where she is playing for both of their protection. She only gets near them when DH or I are sitting right there with her. Our male cat is a sweetie with us but nervous around her but our female cat is very sweet with her and doesnn't seem to mind when DD tries to hug her or put her head on the cat's side to snuggle.
Etd to add my cats honestly weren't interested in DD's things - they never tried to get into her crib but one of them did once climb into her bassinet when she was out of the room - I got very loud and moved her and I think it scared her and she never tried it again. My vet recommended bringing in the baby items at least a month before the baby comes so the cats are used to their equipment.

Re: Ladies with cats
We have a very nosey cat as well and he only once jumped into the pak n play (when the boys were not there) and never into their cribs.
My advice is after you set up the crib/pak n play allow him around it and see what he does. If he jumps in then purchase that netting thing. However, I found my cat was curious about the babies but seemed more afraid of them and would never jump into the crib when they were in there.
Another option I would say you can do is put a laundry basket or even cardboard box around so that he can jump into that instead. Easier to get into for him and not as much effort.

Re: Ladies with cats
We have 2 male cats....DH and I have been wondering about this too. The room that will be the baby's room is my one cat's bedroom He barely leaves that room. We are going to have to keep the door shut to train him...but like someone above said I am more worried about when my kid becomes mobile because both cats have their claws...they are used to my dog but haven't been around kids much..
Also....what about the hair? I am def. worried about that...

Both my cats have their claws - I could never bring myself to declaw them it isn't in me. I try to keep them trimmed.
Cat hair - yeah that is all over but we have hardwood floors in every room in our home but one - and in one additional room an area rug - so it is pretty easy to get the hair up. It is more of a pain with the rugs - we had wall to wall in our co-op and I found it much harder. The hair shouldn't be an issue with the baby unless they are grabbing handfuls and trying to eat it.

Re: Ladies with cats
I have a cat and my only concern is about her jumping in the the baby's crib when she is in there. I plan to keep other furniture away from the crib so she can't find a way in. If it happens, I will get a crib tent.
ETA: I am also more concerned about when the baby becomes interested in the cat. I have a feeling that our cat is not going to want to be chased and bothered by the baby and she may retaliate.
