Re: Lake George
I love Lake George. Both my husband and I have been going there since we were little and still enjoy it. We usually stay on the lake but close to town because we like to walk into town at night and go to the bars etc. We usually stay at Surfside, but it is BADLY in need of updating and it's expensive for what you are getting. You're basically paying for location more than anything. I think this is the case with most of the motels in town. Don't expect luxury, unless you chose the Sagamore.
As far as activities, you can rent a wave runner or a boat and explore the lake or you can take a ride on the Mini-ha-ha. There's also Great Escape amusement park and Waterslide World, Top of the World has beautiful views, and there's little stuff in town like the haunted house, wax museum, mini-golf, posing for old-fashioned photos etc. We also usually have a picnic in the park by the lake.

Re: Lake George
We stayed at the BEST B&B in Lake George Cornerstone Victorian. I would highly recommend it, we can't wait to go back ourselves.

Re: Lake George
We have gone there a couple of times with my family. I have to say, its great because we are with family... BUT, like a previous posted hinted at.. most of the places are in DIRE need of a renovation and still charge a fortune.
Alot of them have pool furniture from the 1950s.
Its cute, and quaint, but not luxurious if that is what you are looking for.

Re: Lake George
We just went in July with 2 other families. It was fun. We stated ath te Mohawk Motel in one of their townhouses. It was new so that was nice and the location was good bc you could walk into town. We went on the Minnie Ha Ha, went mini golfing, watched the fireworks, went to the beach, and hung out by the pool, etc.
We drove down to Saratoga Springs to the track and to have dinner one night. It is such a cute town and had some really nice restaurants.

Re: Lake George
So glad you posted this! We are going the Friday of Labor Day weekend on our way to my sister's in Vermont. We'll stay over night if there is anything available (ha fat chance) and if not, we'll hop on the ferry and go to my siste's. Good to know what places are recommended.
