Landscape Architect
Has anyone ever gotten an estimate or actual work done by a landscape architect/landscaper.
I would love to have someone come in and give me some drawing of what to do to update my backyard but am afraid it will be too much money and I will just wait their time.

Re: Landscape Architect
When I had landscaping done at my former home I used Fury Landscaping (don't know where you're located) in West Hempstead. He came to the house, took photos and then did a virtual design on the computer (didn't charge for it, either). I was able to change and move things around before proceeding with the work. Maybe call around to landscaping companies and ask if they do virtual design.

I actually know someone who does this and have seen his work. I am just afraid that it will be very expensive. How do they charge?

Re: Landscape Architect
It depends upon what you want. We needed EVERYTHING done - including rip out of old bushes. We also had stone retaining walls put in around the raised flower beds, and had a natural barrier of trees put in (about 50'). So depending upon what you want to plant can raise the price. I don't honestly remember what the labor charge was, but we ordered expensive trees so that upped the price significantly.

Re: Landscape Architect
We had a plan done up by a landscape designer and paid $3500. It wasn't even for our whole yard, just foundation plantings and partial side yard. It was also done 4 years ago.
The only thing we really took from the whole plan was our patio and even that we modified. Ultimately, we didn't use any of her plant suggestions.

Re: Landscape Architect
In my experience, it is not the plants, mulch flowers, etc that cost much-it is the cost of labor that eats up most of the price.

Re: Landscape Architect
I went to the Stables Nursery in E. Moriches, you can email pics to them via their website and they charge $75 for landscape design - you have to be very specific with them, what you like, don't like, what you are trying to achieve. If you buy the plants frm them, the knock off the $75.
