What is a normal age for children to start figuring out irregular past tense? Drived/Drove Runned/Ran Goed/Went My daughter has normal language skills otherwise, and an excellent vocabulary but this part of her speech sticks out to me. It has never been brought up by her teachers though, so I assume it’s normal?

Re: Language development
Are you correcting the mistakes as they happen? When my kids would say the word incorrectly the first time, I would explain what the right word was. So over time between 2 and 4 as they developed larger vocabularies I would incorporate those words and forms within their knowledge base. I did not expect them to just get it right as first. I did not go into tenses until age 5 with mad libs jr. That was a huge help to explain word classifications.

Honestly I have an 11 year old who still uses these words incorrectly at times. When pressed to correct herself she knows the right word so some of it is laziness. However they did not have strong ELA or grammar classes at the school we were at either.
