Last call: Us moms that don't have family to help out should
try to put a playgroup together. I'm not excluding the mom's that have family to help out but I want to focus on us that don't have family to help out. I am suggesting a playgroup that we have on a regular basis so we can all get to know each other and perhaps build friendships in which we could lean on each other to help out with the kids. I know pncss was putting something together but I'm not ready to leave dd with someone I don't know that well. I figure with a regular playgroup, over time, we can form bonds which would involve trusting someone else with the care of our children so when we are sick and there is no family to help - we do have someone that we can reach out to.
Anyone interested?

That's a great idea. I wish we could participate, but we're too far away in Chicago.

I really like this idea. With both sets of parents out of state, I could really use a support system and this sounds like a great way to start that.

I'm glad some of us are interested in the idea. I'm going to keep track of those of us that are interested and send out a FM today or tomorrow and try to make this happen.

You were my inspiration. I know exactly how you feel and I'm in the same boat except for the fact that dh has a flexible schedule. For instance, I have to go to the denist this afternoon and he has to come home early because I don't have anyone to watch dd. If I had a friend going where we could do this and reciprocate...I wouldn't need to have dh come home early. Plus, I'm always interested in meeting new friends.

Re: Us moms that don't have family to help out should
I would love to start something. DH and I don't have any family locally.
My family lives overseas and DH's parents passed away. The closest relative we have lives in NJ.
I have to admit also that I am not ready to leave my DS with anyone but there are many kind of support.

me too :) DH's parents live in NC and all I have here is my dad, and he's not really the 'baby handling' kinda grandpa..
I also like meeting other moms when I can :) DD is 8 mos. and we are in Lindenhurst.
What a nice idea - thanks!

Same with me - and I would love a give and take situation instead of having to ask my mom all the time.

Re: Last call: Us moms that don't have family to help out should
Just wanted to tell you that is a great idea. I live in Ohio and found a playgroup and now have a great group of friends/moms. I feel totally comfortable calling them if I need a last minute babysitter and they do the same. Our group is small...about 5 moms and all the kids know all the moms and everyone is comfortable with each other and is aware of what kids have what alleriges, etc.
We even have Moms Night out once a month, birthday parties for the kids and we are going on a moms trip this weekend!
So I just wanted to give you a little bit of encouragement to start your group becasue you all will become very close friends and it is exactly what you need when you don;t have family around all the time.

Ditto. It's my husband's family therefore since I'm not one of the daughters, we aren't getting special treatment.

Re: Last call: Us moms that don't have family to help out should
I moved here from NC last year and though I have my husband's family near by I would love to have my own group of friends. I was involved in a few playgroups in NC and they became like a family to me. I live in Merrick now and have a 5 year old, 4 year old and a 1 year old. I would be very interested in getting involved in a group near by.

This is great. I'm in Nassau, all of my family is out of state. Only my In-laws we have to help when we really need it but not on a regular basis. Add me if you can!
