6/27-
Thank you so much everyone! Mom's out of the hospital. She has to go back in about 3 months after she takes some meds that are supposed to break the gallstones down. She went for a 2nd opinion this week at Mt. Sinai- and will be going back there for the surgery. I'm so relieved to have her home- her incisions seem to be healing nicely, so hopefully she'll be back to her old self in no time  Thanks again everyone!!!!
my mom is in surgery right now having her gallbladder taken out. Please say a quick prayer (if you pray) or give her a quick thought, that everything is well w/ her surgery.  She's felt awful for quite some time and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with her. We're hoping this is it... TIA!!! 
UPDATE:
They took her in at 8:45 and it was supposed to be 'a piece of cake'... needless to say it's now almost noon and she's still in. 
They said it's much worse than they thought... her gallbladder had lots of gallstones, as did the track leading to the intestine, as well as someplace else (sorry, I'm upset and can't remember everything right now).
The surgeon can't do all of it he said. He needs a 'specialist' to come in and finish it, and also said that though they did this laproscopily, that now they may need to make an incision to 'get a better view'. My poor mom... this is awful. I hope whoever they end up getting knows what they're doing... 
5:00 Update:
well she still isn't home. They now might be transferring her to another hospital overnight, if not more than one night, until a specialist can come in and finsh the surgery. My dad said she looks awful- she's hooked up to tubes and oxygen, and she can barely talk or move.  I want to go be with her but I can't b/c I'm caring for my grandma...
9:50 update:
mom's staying overnight at the hospital. she still hadn't 'gone' when my dad left around 9:00, so they were putting a catheter in her.... my dad said she looked so miserable.
I didn't get to see her tonight. We went into Riverhead to have a quick bite to eat and then I was going to either send grandma home w/ my DH or bring her with me (whichever she chose to do) but when I talked to my mom she asked me not to come because she said she just wanted to sleep... she sounded horrible.
So instead I went grocery shopping for my mom's house... and then when my dad got home I made him dinner and just left their house.
They don't know what's going to happen tomorrow either. I'm no impressed with this hospital either (and this isn't the one she was in a month ago- we wouldn't let her go back there). The dr was very overwhelmed by her surgery b/c it was much worse than he was anticipating and now he's giving my dad the old 'SOME dr at SOME facility will operate on her tomorrow'!!!  ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I don't want just anyone operating on her- I want someone who knows their stuff and is confident that they can fix this!!!  Sorry, I need to vent. I miss my mom... 
Tuesday morning update:
My mom sounds awful. She is in tremendous pain and can still barely talk. I could hear her breathing the oxygen in while I was on the phone and she sounds like her mouth is so dry... they're supposedly finishing up the surgery tomorrow at a different hospital (one that I wouldn't go to if I had a choice and am very unhappy about this), though the surgeon that's finishing it is very good- but he's the one who recommended the dr that did her surgery to her...  I guess because the gall stones have gotten too low for the 1st dr to do now they have to go in via colonoscopy (again) and do the surgery that way it sounds like (they're not sure if it can continue to be done laproscopily or if she'll have to be cut open the old fashioned way )
I'm going to go see her today. I'll probably update later if there is anything to update.

Wednesday afternoon update:
Mom just got out of surgery. She's being sent via ambulence back to the first hospital. After all of this, the dr wasn't able to get all of the gallstones out of her bile duct So now she's going to have to go through all of this AGAIN down the road, at a bigger hospital, with a different specialist My poor mom- she's still in a lot of pain and very out of it from the anestesia. They had to put a tube down her throat to do this today and I'm guessing the results from that are no picnic either. Please continue to keep her in your prayers. Thanks everyone- I hope she'll be home by the weekend, but the way things are going, who knows...

I had my gallbladder out when I was 24 and can still remember what the pain was like before I had it out. The recuperation period when done laproscopically is really a breeze. She will feel so much better once it is out!!!!

I will pray that everything goes smooth. Hopefully its all done by now. Well, this is the problem for sure. Everything is going to be fine and your Mom is going to be a lot better. They don't know whats going on until they take a look. Why wont someone invent a machine to see whats going on inside.

I'll pray for your mom, I had my gall bladder out 5 year's ago and i had to be cut open. She'll be fine.
