Latching question
My DD has had trouble latching on due to a shallow latch. The lazy bugger would rather chew on my nipple and that isn't going to work. My peditrican pointed out that my sore nipples were due to shallow latch.
Now I know what the problem is- how do I get her to open her mouth wide to latch on? She won't do it on her own.

Re: Latching question
Keep practicing and don't let her latch if she isn't on right. Have you tried the football hold? I found that to be the easiest position for Molly when she was little. You may also want to squeeze a little milk out and tickle her mouth with your nipple so she gets a little taste. Another thing you can do is have DH pull/push down her chin so she opens wider. You also want to make sure that you smootch her on your breast quickly and fast when she does open her mouth.

Re: Latching question
Also, if you try nipple shields and sort of press them around your nipple and cause a sort of vacuum, those might work well.
Its hard to explain, but if you sort of press the nipple bit in, put it on your boob and let it out it will create a bit of a vacuum...
