late talker help?
Hi! Ds is 13m and has not spoken a word. He babbles allllll day long and has been doing this forever lol. He knows what the balll is when I ask him to get it and imitates us and claps etc. Super friendly, inquisitive active and constantly walking and playing. I talk all the time to him but he isn't really trying to repeat anything. Thoughts? When would u be concerned etc? Tia!!!!

I wouldn't be concerned. At that age it's more important that they understand. My ped said they should be speaking a lot by 2 & if they aren't by then to get an evaluation.

late talker help?
I agree with the PP. my DS barely said a word until he was about 20 months. He was already getting PT through EI so we had him speech evaluated, and the said as long as he understands, don't be concerned and we can reevaluate him in a few months if needed. Then all of a sudden at 20 months he just started talking so much. Now, at 30 months, he never shuts up, lol!

late talker help?
I have twin boys. One started talking almost immediately. My other twin was not even saying blah blah. We had him evaluated at around 13 months (we were already in the EI system) he was approved for speech. They are now 20M & he is talking alot more about 20 or so words. Our therapist says that as long as they say blah blah blah then they are on track. If you really don't hear anything by 19M then call for evaluation but boys start talking later.

late talker help?
My son was a late talker too. They say early walker, late talker. This saying held true for my DS. He wasn't saying much more than Mama/Dada at 13 months. Now at 32 months he's speaking full sentences and coming out with new words all the time.

Re: late talker help?
My dd is a late talker...but my dr didn't raise any red flag until her 18 mo checkup...he wanted 10 words by 18 mo...now that she is 18 with only 3 words- we are going to see if she qualifies for some early intervention...he said it it is really just to get her in the system.. So we aren't beginning at 2 yrs old.. If she needs services-then the re-evaluate again in 6 mo- which my dr said will prob be nothing
You have plenty of time to get worried! No worries!

late talker help?
My son says Mama, Dada, shoe, juice, and sometimes tast for toast. He rarely speaks but I think it's because his sister never shuts up lol. She always knows what he wants. I was worried, but he follows commands and understands well. I would be more concerned if he didn't get what we said at all KWIM? I remember 14m-22m as being very frustrating with my DD. She knew what she wanted, but didn't have the words. I think having her know what he wants makes it easier for him.

Re: late talker help?
DS is now 17 mos and just started communicating verbally the past few weeks. He says a couple of words "hi" and "bye", other words he knows but won't say unless he wants to, like "ball, cat, car, okay".
He'll talk when he's good and ready :) I gave myself till he's 2yrs old to start to worry.
ETA: For all I know he's already talking (his own language, lol) since he's been babbling since he was 6mos.
