Re: Le leche league
i think they're great!! it's frustrating that they have a bad rep as "militant and crazy" in many circles, because i haven't found them to be that way at all.
i've been to two different meetings (diff. locations). one i loved and the other was so-so. it really depends on the dynamics of the leader and the group.
but, even the so-so one was informative and useful. i plan on going back to the one i liked now that i'm back on long island. i have even called one of the leaders and she was amazingly helpful on the phone.
breastfeeding can be really stressful, emotional, and draining at times. it's nice to be surrounded and supported by other women that understand exactly what you are going through. plus any questions you have, they really are the authority.

Re: Le leche league
I went to a meeting in Freeport when I was home visiting my mother, they are just a bunch of women who support each other. It found it really great, and if I lived in the area, I would have kept going. If you want some support, maybe to meet some people, I say go for it. Where I live I used to go to a BF'ing support group and I found it fantastic help when my son was an infant. Also, when my son was a newborn a woman from Laleche came out to my house to support me and to help me for free. They are a great organisation.
They aren't militant in any way shape or form.

Re: Le leche league
I've been twice to the one in F. Park. It was very relaxed and laid back, just a handful of women chatting and offering suggestions. It was nice. I know those are held on the third Thursday of every month.

Re: Le leche league
I was a member during my first daughters first year -- they were very, very helpful. The meetings were laid back. Everyone sat in a circle and talked.
