Re: lead teacher
I don't know if you are in NYC- because I'm sure it's different outside the city. But from what I've read and witnessed, a lead teacher is a lot like a literacy coach- but LTs get an additional $10k. However, they spend a lot of time after school (and I think on weekends) in meetings and PD. Their role is to be a professional support to the teachers, but they also teach a half schedule.
I'm not impressed with our LT. She was never in our grade meetings, never visited most of us (at all) and didn't seem to do much. I think it's one of those jobs where you need a lot of initiative, OR a principal who is going to give you a lot of structure.
If you are looking to do this in NYC, I would find out if you still get that extra $10k- they expect a lot of extra time for it and if you're not going to get the money, are you still expected to do all that PD after school and on Saturdays? I recall that the budget was really hitting the LT program hard, but I also heard it wasn't affected- who knows with the city. Hope this helps!
