Leah Walsh / Laci Petersen
Why is it that the Laci Petersen case was front page NATIONAL news, yet the same tragic story with Leah Walsh is only broadcast in her home town? 
Same crime, no?

i think with the Peterson case, there was so much more of an outrage because she was pregnant 
and she had been missing for quite sometime
both are tragic nonetheless

she was pregnant and missing for a lot longer.
If she was pregnant and missing for weeks it would have made national news
the parents also went to all the media sources with her pictures and information. I don't think Leah's parents had done that yet

I agree with the previous posters. I think that if Leah's "disappearance" had gone on longer, it would have made national news by next week.

And with Laci it took a LONG time for her husband to be arrested, even though he was a person of interest for months. In the interim, the whole story exploded after his girlfriend (forget her name) dropped the goods on him. The media were all over it...

I agree she was missing longer, and very pregnant.
But I did see the Walsh case was covered in some papers cross country - San Francisco Gate, Washington Post, LA Times, Forbes, etc.
If you google her name and click on news, you can see the coverage was syndicated nationally.

I think the main difference is that Laci Petersen's murder WAS planned for a while. He had already told the girlfriend his wife was dead when she was not.
AND she was PG and far along in the pregnancy.

agree. plus it was around the holidays and no one was a suspect for awhile. Also the girlfriend of Scotts made the storie bigger.

I defin agree, the fact that they found her so quickly, and that the arrest was made so fast.
Scott Peterson was not arrested right away, and Laci was missing for a long time.
They were tracking him though the entire time cause they knew he did it.
This story has really touched me, i feel for the family so much and cant imagine what they must be going through.
They lived in my area, same school district but just north of me.
I cant stop thinking about this case

you need to keep in mind what else is going on in the world to grab our attention. News only gets blown up if they want us to really know about it. There are so many things going on that is sad all the time but only unique things make it.

I think because Laci was very pregnant and went missing on Christmas Eve is why she received so much attention. Plus, she was missing longer and there was a lot of dramsa (ie Amber) surronding her case.

That's exactly what I was thinking, DH works in that precinct and it hardly got any attention.
Don't get me wrong, they are both horrible, horrific crimes. But it is a shame that that poor girl was completely forgotten. And I think it would have happened whether Leah Walsh went missing or not.

OMG that's just horrific, absolutely disgusting. I don't know where I stand on the death penalty somedays - but when I hear things like this - it really makes me lean toward supporting it

The entire issue doesn't receive enough attention which is why so many women don't know there is help for them and people still chose to believe it's not happening in their own backyard.
