Leaking breasts question (sorry if TMI)
When I wake up in the morning my shirt has wet circles on it and so does the bed...
What can I do to at least control the mess? Do you wear the nursing pads to bed with a bra? I love not wearing any bra to bed but its making quite a mess in the morning...

Re: Leaking breasts question (sorry if TMI)
I wore nursing bras for what seemed like forever. I couldn't stand waking up with a wet shirt and the smell was nasty (tmi ). So, yes, I wore a bra to bed for a while until the leaking slowed down and wasn't as bad.

Re: Leaking breasts question (sorry if TMI)
I wear sports bras to bed every night with the nursing pads in them. It svcks to have to wear any sort of bra to bed, but I find the sports bra to be more comfortable than a regular bra.

Re: Leaking breasts question (sorry if TMI)
I've been BF for almost 8 months, and I've worn a bra to bed since the beginning.
Even after my supply evened out, I wore nursing during the day to avoid any embarrassing leaks...and then since they rarely absorbed anything during the day, I just wore the same nursing pads to bed at night.
You know what I do? I wear underwire nursing bras during the day, but I bought some of those really cheap spandex soft-cup bras (the ones they always advertise in the coupon section of the newspaper ). They were super cheap, like 2 for $10, and while they offer no support whatsoever, they keep everything contained. The best thing is, if you need to nurse in the middle of the night, you can just pop your boob right out the top of the bra, it's super easy
HTH! Here's the bra I was talking about, you can get them from clearpointdirect.com. 2 for $9.95!

I always wear a sleep bra and pads to bed. As a matter of fact, I always wear pads. Get the Medela sleep bra -- it is so comfortable! And the Lansinoh pads are great too!

when i first started producing milk, even nursing pads didn't keep the milk from going all over but eventually it slows down!

Re: Leaking breasts question (sorry if TMI)
I hate wearing a bra to bed, so I sleep with a waterproof pad underneath me (like one you would buy for a bassinet) and a towel. Its a PITA, but I am very uncomfortable wearing a bra. But my shirt does get soaked so I often change it in the middle of the night.

Re: Leaking breasts question (sorry if TMI)
i hate wearing a bra to bed. i usually just end up wearing a nursing tank (they have a few on target.com) or a tighter fitting tank top and sticking a pad in there. they keep everything in place. if i don't have any pads, i just use a burp rag. not pretty but works just as well.

For the first few months I always wore nursing pads in my bras to bed. I really enjoyed the nursing tanks! They were really comfy.

Re: Leaking breasts question (sorry if TMI)
Nursing sleep bras are sooo comfortable! They have no underwire or padding. There is really nothing to them. I put nurising pads in when I think I'm going to leak.

Comfort bras
Oh Beth!!!! Those are exactly what I've been wanting to get!!! I had a comfy cotton one like that I used to wear to bed on camping trips or when DH and I started having "sleepovers" for a little modesty! But that's exactly what I wanted for now, to keep the pads in place and for a little more comfort and relief from wearing a bra allllll day and night! Thanks!!! I'm totally going to order them or find them!
In reply to original post... I too get really full and leaky by morning! One night, I just had enough with the bra so I took it off. In the morning as I was barely awake, I had a semi dream that I was laying in bed with ice cubes on my chest that were melting and dripping down the side of me! I woke up to my boob leaking and dripping like a faucet onto my arm on my side with a nice puddle!!!
Yeah, I do not see me not needing pads any time soon!

Re: Leaking breasts question (sorry if TMI)
I usually just wear a built in bra camisole and put the nursing pads in there to absorb any leakage.

Re: Leaking breasts question (sorry if TMI)
i wore some form of apparel that held nursing pads... usually a bra... dont need those boobies down to my knees when i am done... but if i was pmsing i wore a tank that was a nursing tank with the lower bra support strap so it still held the nursing pad in place

Glad I could help! I think I'm gonna continue wearing them even when I'm done BF...you know, since my boobs now hang all the way down to the floor

ITA. I basically stopped wearing pads when DS was about 6.5 months b/c I don't leak now. I still wear them at work especially if I have a meeting and/or will be away from the office for a while.

Re: Leaking breasts question (sorry if TMI)
If you are going to BF for some time, I highly suggest you invest in some Lilly Padz. They are SO much more comfortable than pads, are reusable, washable, and you can wear them without a bra at night, and you won't leak. I wear them during the day, too, and they aren't noticeable or uncomfortable, like the breast pads are.

I always wondered about these. I may have to invest in these this time around.
I went through pads like crazy with DS. I would double up at night and sometimes change them in the middle of the night. At work I had to change them a few times a day I was so nervous of leaking on my clothes.

I've never seen these before...but what happens if you do leak? Won't the moisture stay next to your skin?

It is very rare that you will leak with them - trust me, I have serious oversupply issues, and I rarely leak. The reason being is that the way you put them on, puts pressure on your nipple, preventing leakage in the first place. If you do leak, yes, some milk will stay trapped inside - it happens on occasion, and I just have to clean it up with a burp cloth as I pull of the pad, and then I make sure I wash the padz after every use. I bought a few pairs so I interchange them, so I'm not constantly washing them.
