Re: Leap Frog Tag JR- any opinions, reviews
My son just turned 2 and I was going to get it for him for Christmas. However, after talking to a bunch of my other mom friends I decided not to. They said it isn't worth it, there kids got bored with it really quickly, etc. They said the regular TAG is great, but I think he needs to be like 3.

I actually read similar feedback on here so I just got the regular TAG instead (DS just turned 2).

Re: Leap Frog Tag JR- any opinions, reviews
I bought it for Noah, hes 2 1/2 and I think its good for him. I read what the moms on here said about the regular tag being better and I tried that in the store and thers no way he would understand how to use it. you have to place the thin pen right on the word, and then the next word etc, hes not coordinated to do that yet. Its on sale at Target for $28.99 and theres a $10 Target printable coupon online as well as a $5 Leapfrog one, you can combine and get $15 off the price.

We're getting Bella it for Christmas...I'm not sure he would *get it* yet IMO.
I might wait for his B-day or next Christmas to get it for him

Here is the Target one...scroll to half way down ( expires 11/25 section to Leapfrog Tag reading system and click 1 and the coupon shows up ) and it is good on BOTH tag and Tag Jr.
TARGET COUPON
And heres the Manufacturer one..
LEAPFROG COUPON
Eta- they have them on display at target so you can try it out first too.

Re: Leap Frog Tag JR- any opinions, reviews
We have it and I don't like it. The kid puts the pen on the page, and it reads the whole sentence, rather than each word. So if the kid puts the pen on the sentence, he doesn't know which word the Tag is saying, because it says the whole thing all at once. I don't see the difference between this, and me just reading to him. I like the regular Tag, because he can put the pen on each word, one at a time and hear what it is.

The issue with the Tag at such a young age though, is you have to hold the pen over each word, one at a time. My 2 and 1/2 yr old took the pen and did the words but not in order, he was not coordinated enough nor could he really grasp to do it one word at a time, he just did random words all over the page.
My niece is 3, she's the one who has it and she does one sentance and gets bored.
Every kid is different but I think the Tag"s more for 4+... ( although i did see reviews on her from younger kid"s mom"s who said their kids loved it..so what do I know?! lol)

I think it depends on what you are using it for - and, like you said, the child. I have found this to be one of the best "toys" we have and DS has been using the regular tag since about 16 months (can't remember exactly). Obviously, he is not learning to read from it at that point - I do think they won't be able to use it to read until closer to 3 (although since I am a first time mom I really have no idea).
That said - this is how my DS used it and why I like it...
When he first got it (around 16-17 months) it helped him to learn words. In plenty of the books, Dora and Diego for example - it's not just reading the story - you can point to the picture and the pen will say the name of the picture. He learned/reinforced a lot of words this way - he would go through the book - point at the picture and then repeat the word. Also, in Dora they have the alphabet and the numbers. You can put the pen on the letter and it will say it or, a certain part where it sings the whole song - DS would sing along with it...
Now at 26 months he does a few other things with it - he places the pen on the part of the page where it "reads" the page and he listens to the story that way. He also can play some of the easiest games - like in Diego where they say to find certain animals or characters.
ANyway, can't say enough about this b/c it has kept my DS consistently entertained through countless meals in restaurants and at parties...I love it!
My only issue is they need to make more books. DS has most of the boy ones that are suitable for his age and I want more! HTH!

I agree and our kids are the same age. What I like over Tag for this age is that I am not getting it to teach DS to read. For us, its just the independence of being able to actually hear the story without waiting for Mommy to read it! He LOVES his books, THey are his favorite toy.
I like that it reads the whole sentence because I feel at his age with the attention span he has, if he had to point to each individual word, it would be too difficult and he wouldnt like it.
We got it at Costco for $40 and it includes the Tag Jr, 2 books and carrying case. When he is older and I feel that he is ready to start reading I will upgrade to the Tag.

i was checking out the tag jr today at toys r us for my nephew (he's 3) I wasnt too impressed with it. And for your son's age or even a 2 yr old, i think it would be difficult for them to use

target ALWAYS combines...They mean another "leapfrog " offer, it says that on all coupons.
Target often puts their own coupons out ( like in the toy book and on their site) and you can combine them with Manufacturer coupons.
