Re: Lease Deals $0 down?

you can do 0 down, I did it on my car. However remember 0 down is not 0 money out of pocket - you still have to pay for all the little things like title, delivery, etc. which adds up.

If you put $0 down your payment will be higher - but IMO putting a lot down on a lease is a waste of money b/c you don't really own the car.

That is exactly how I feel. So is $1500-2000 a fair amount to put down?

I know but I remember reading somewhere that said if you are going to lease not to put a lot down..
ETA: Here's why:

Because you pay for the use of a vehicle during a lease, you should put as little money down as possible, up front. Although putting money down can lower your lease payments (by reducing your capitalized cost) in most cases it cannot be regained in the event of early termination due to a loss.

For example, a customer once leased a Toyota 4Runner and put $3,000
down as a cap reduction. Five months later the vehicle was totaled in an
accident. The client's insurance paid its portion of the lease payoff and
Gap Insurance paid the balance. Our client walked away with only paying
his insurance deductible but he did not get reimbursed for his initial down
payment of $3,000. It was lost.

The moral of this true story is to put as little money down as possible,
ideally no money down. Here are some other things to consider:

Money down is taxable
Take the money you would have put down and invest it
Put your down payment in a savings account and use a portion each month to help make your lease payment

I know but I remember reading somewhere that said if you are going to lease not to put a lot down.. I'm not talking $1000-$2000, I mean a big amount of money. I'll see if I can find the article. I am sure there was some reasoning behind it.

Im just trying to understand Im new to this also Chat Icon OF course if you had a lot to put down why not finance but 2-3k down will make your payments less.... right?

Re: Lease Deals $0 down?

i have a 2006 altima special edition that i lease and pay $220/month for 36 months, 12k miles/year and unlimited oil changes. i put $1500 down which i told them to apply to all the fees which they did. i love my altima!!!! i love the price even more!!!

when it comes to leases, be firm. TELL them what you want to pay and you'll see them work some kinda magic to make sure you get into that car!

ETA: and if they pull the "i have to talk to my manager to see if this is possible" bit...that means you've got them! tell them "if your manager doesnt agree i'll go to a different dealership where they will agree". he'll come back and congratulate you! Chat Icon
