Leave question for NYC Teachers
Once tenured can you take a leave and take a job outside of the city? Has anyone done this?

Re: Leave question for NYC Teachers
I don't have direct experience...but there is someone in my district who is doing a leave replacement and she gave up a tenured NYC position. She said that she has 1 year and 1 day to take her resignation back, which she unfortunately has to do.
I am no authority - but definitely worth looking into

Re: Leave question for NYC Teachers
I believe you can resign from your position and you have 5 years to take it back and it would be counted as an unexcused leave...I am not 100% sure though and right now if you were to leave NYC there is a hiring freeze and I dont know if they would let you go back even if you were tenured.

You can take up to a 5 year leave....not the same as resigning.
From what I understand you have one year and one day after you resign to get your job back. However there is a hiring freeze like a pp said. I know that a woman that quit last August tried to get her job back for next year and they said no.

Same exact thing is happening in my district. She is going back after being gone for a year.

I know that during a childcare leave you can only sub 4 days a week. You canh't work elsewhere. I don't know about other types of leaves.
