NYC Teachers Who Left During The Year For Maternity Leave--SUMMER PAY QUESTION
I LEFT THE END OF SEPT, AND RETURNED IN THE BEGINNING OF JANUARY. I TOOK A FMLA LEAVE FOR THOSE 12 WEEKS.
HOW MUCH LOWER WILL MY SUMMER CHECK BE? I WANT TO KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT AND NOT SURE HOW TO FIGURE THIS OUT.

I lost about 500 per check for a total of about 2,000 over the summer

Because you are paid over 183 day work year spread out over 365 days. So your daily rate is effected. You cannot be paid for days you weren't there.
Call HR, I am sure they can explain it better then I can!

so lets say you use the days in your CAR first, would you be penalized for absences on those days resulting in a decrease in summer pay also?
(I'll be in the same situation next school year!)

We "earn" 1/10 of our summer salary per month of the school year and that's the money we get in the summer. So if you worked most of Jan. to June you'd get roughly 6/10 of your usual pay. But I don't know how your CAR will figure into it. I was appointed mid-year and got roughly half of my usual pay for the summer checks.

I'm not 100% sure but I believe the CAR days are including in the days you work for summer pay because when you take a day off during the year, that is not deducted from your summer pay. AT least I hope that is the case.
I only think days without pay are not inlcuded.
