leave replacements
do teachers who are hired as a 'leave replacement' get paid a full teacher's salary? do they have insurance? does the year count towards professional status??

yes to all three of your questions.
you receive benefits (depending on the length of the leave... . full year leaves in my building get benefits) and your pay is determined at your contract signing (i.e. Masters degree, Step 1).
Whatever time is put in toward the leave is used towards time towards your pension (TRS) and whatever time you need to receive a professional certificate. (i.e. 3 years teaching experience)
HTH! I was never a leave, and I'm under the old certification requiremenst, but this is how it works in my dsitrict.

Leave replacements do not always get the full teacher salary. Sometimes they are paid as a per diem sub depending on the length of the leave. Sometimes leaves get sub pay for the first 6-8 weeks of leave and then can be put on salary but it varies by district.
Also, many leave replacement do not get benefits. That is up to the district to decide.

not true across the board!
ours do NOT get benefits. do NOT get teacher salary (unless it is a very long term leave). they get sub pay for several months although it does increase the longer they're there.
the leave doesn't count toward tenure if that's what professional status is. it only would count if it's a full year and you then get hired on tenure track.
i've had 3 leaves. one i DID get teacher pay, but that was after several months of working at sub rates. i never got insurance as a leave.
you need to check with the actual district to know their policies.

When I had my Leave Replacement in 2004 I did get Step I Salary after I believe 90 days and it was retro active but I did not get benefits! I was there for 4 months!
