Re: Leaving party early and expecting dessert...

it depends on why they were leaving. and who they are.

to me, it's not categorically rude. it depends on the circumstances.

Re: Leaving party early and expecting dessert...

I think both of those are rude... people shouldn't make you hurry up your schedule for serving b/c they want to leave early - nor should they expect you to cut the cake so they can take some home - before they even served the other guests.

And if you read the OP, they wanted cake cut for them to take home - a half hour before she planned to serve dessert.

The OP only said that they were waiting around for cake to take home. Read it again. It never said they asked for the cake to be cut. So if they're waiting around, let them wait. If they wanna go home, let them go home. No skin off my back. I don't see what the big deal is...

Did the people say "we're staying because we're waiting for the cake" or did they say "we have to leave, can you please cut some cake for us"

There's a difference.

They were just standing there after they already announced they had to go. I was like okay thanks for coming. One woman actually said "We're waiting for some of the cake and dessert to take with us." She was so serious and appeared upset I didn't have her plate ready to go when she made her announcement she was leaving.Chat Icon

I'd just say, "Then you'll have to wait another thirty minutes. That's when it's being cut."

I don't worry about being rude right back to rude people.

Re: Leaving party early and expecting dessert...

I dont think I would have the nerve to ask for dessert to be given to me so I could take it home...you wait for it to be served and eat it while you are at the party....or stop and get yourself some Entenmanns on the way home!

putting the pressure on for a sheet cake to be cut! Unbelievable!Chat Icon

However, if I was at my sister's house or the house of a really good friend and she made her famous brownies or cookies, I would feel comfortable asking for one to go as I was leaving because of the individual serving and the kind of relationship we have.
