Leaving the hospital...
I get discharged at 10 AM... I am wondering what I need to wear home. All of my PJs/Loungewear can be worn outside, without looking silly. PLUS, I am going to have a coat over whatever I am wearing. Or should I bring like a comfy pair of cords and a sweater to look a little more like a normal person?
Another question is-- is it worth it to shower at the hospital (assuming I have a private room) and get dressed in more normal clothes?
I feel like after 2 days in the hospital- you'll just want your own shower, etc. BUT I am the kind of person who needs to shower before I leave the house otherwise I feel ick. And I am thinking that by the time I get home, I won't ever get in the shower with the baby here, the baby nurse, probably my mom, etc.
Just trying to plan and pack accordingly!

I plan on wearing my maternity jeans and a long sleeve t-shirt home. I will have a private room, so a shower is a must before I go home.

Re: Leaving the hospital...
I say be comfortable. It will feel so much better and then when you get home you won't feel like to want to change so soon.
Congrats.

Re: Leaving the hospital...
I didn't even think about the picture aspect...
I am totally planning on showering while at the hospital-- just wondering what I would do that particularly morning.
Another good point about not needing to change as soon as you get home. Thing is, I am not a sweatsuit person, so it's PJs or jeans for me really.

This was just me, but the last thing I wanted to put on was jeans when i went home ( although I had a c-section) but I would imagine even w/ a vag. delievery, jeans could be uncomfortable...Maybe some other BTDT mommies could chime in...I might pack a cozy pair just in case , but some people are jeans people ( they definately look cuter that for sure !!! )

Re: Leaving the hospital...
With my last pregnancy I delivered on a sat night and was discharged mon morning. I had my own private room but when I asked if I could shower they didnt want me to so soon.. So I ended up just washing down in the sink.. I felt sooo nasty when I left.. but to be honest I think even if I showered there I still would have felt icky. I wore home my maternity jeans and top.. and then showered as soon as I walked in my door.. It was the best shower ever!!!

With my first child, I showered that morning and dressed in a maternity sweat suit. I wasn't ready for cords or jeans---everything was still really sore. You don't want anything tight fitting or rough around "the area".

Re: Leaving the hospital...
I'm bringing lounge pants and a l/s tee or something. And, since I'll still be swollen, flats. I really can't wait to wear a normal pair of shoes, heels or sneakers again. I miss my boots and pumas!

Re: Leaving the hospital...
I hav been wondering about the same thing! I am the type who NEVEr leaves house without shower and at least a little blush......I plan on showering before leaving for sure because I have no idea what bringing 2 babies home will be like and I am sure DH will be afraid to be left alone at first.....although my parents will be staying for the first few weeks..... as for what to wear...i am planning on bringing jeans and a long sleeved tee but also got a realy cute black velour suit that says "Twin Mommy" in crystals on the back of the jacket....I am usualy not that cheesy at all but screw it!! I am so proud to have these little boys! i could also just wear the jacket with my jeans..not sure how i will feel..i may leave in huge sweats and a tee LOL.....

Re: Leaving the hospital...
I wore maternity jeans and a regular top and blazer the day I went home. I was in the hospital 5 days because I had a c/s and took a shower there every day except the day I delivered. You will def want to!

Re: Leaving the hospital...
Take a shower that morning. You might be taking photos as you leave the hospital and you can leave the baby in the nursery if you need to. Once you get home, you'll get busy with other things and you probably won't get to take one.
I wore comfy knit pants and a sweater home from the hospital. I just wanted to be comfy and warm.

Re: Leaving the hospital...
I took a shower before I left & wore an all black sweatsuit to go home. My DH asked me if I wanted to wait until I got hiome to shower especially since he just cleaned the entire bathroom that morning. Although the idea of showering at home sounded great, I decided to shower at hospital. I just really wanted to shower before getting dressed.

Re: Leaving the hospital...
i would wear something comfy and looser around your lower half, given that you will be wearing a big pad and may have stitches down there.
ETA: oh, and make sure that the clothes you bring are maternity. i had this fantasy that once the baby came out that i wouldn't look pregnant anymore, so i actually brought some non-maternity clothes with me along with my maternity stuff. umm... i couldn't get the non-maternity pants over my KNEES, and i still had the belly of a 20 or so week preggo. so much for that

EXCELLENT point... I don;t need to look like I am wearing a diaper in a pair of cords.

Re: Leaving the hospital...
I'd shower at the hospital and wear something comfy home (be it sweats or nicer clothes that make you feel good). I think I wore nice workout type clothes home, yoga pants. Yeah your shower will be better, but you'll also be bleeding a lot and have hospital "ick" on you...and I wanted that feeling off asap so showering at the hospital was the only thing that made me feel clean. I felt to gross to wait till I got home to shower.
Also, its not as hectic as you think when you get home...or at least for me it wasn't (we also said no visitors right away). We got home and were just like "ok what do we do now?" the baby sleeps... A LOT!

Re: Leaving the hospital...
OMG- the shower is the only thing that made me feel human. I swear, I was groaning with relief throughout it.
I wore a pair of maternity pants and a tee shirt home. Sadly, you'll likely still look about 6 months pg when you leave.
That said, with this pg, I lost 25 pounds in the first 10 days!

Re: Leaving the hospital...
Since I'm ahving a csection I will probably be staying for more than 2 days, I'm def. going to need a shower! I should bring a pair of flip flops to wear in the shower there. I bought a "coming home outfit" for me. I guess it wouldn't hurt to bring sweats or PJ bottoms too. XOXOXO BOTB

I'm showering at the hospital no matter what.
I plan on coming home in my velour sweatsuit. I don't forsee myself wanting to be all dressed up. I do enjoy loungewear though.

Wear whatever is most comfortable for you! I'll be lucky if I can even FIT into prematernity stuff, otherwise it's juicy pants and a matching top for me.
Try not to stress over these little things... you'll have your baby and that is all that will matter.

Re: Leaving the hospital...
I gave birth in the summer...so I wore home shorts & a tshirt. But...I will say - I ended up being there for 3 nights...by the time I gave birth I had already been there 1 night...so I still had to stay 2 more nights after DD was born. I did shower there the day after DD was born - but that was 2 full days after my last shower - I felt like such a disaster - the shower was great, but not as great as your first shower in your own bathroom at home!
