Leaving your child at a store
I went to woodbury commons yesterday, and someone left their toddler AT A STORE. She was about 3 years old and was left at the store for about 10 minutes until the parents realized it. The store called security before the parents did. And the dad came about 10 minutes after they called security, even though the store was 5 stores down from where they were.
I can understand losing a child in a store- like they run away and hide. But how do two people leave a store without your child?
When the dad picked her up, he was very calm and said- "that should show you not to run away".

Are you kidding? How irresponsible!
If you left your child, don't blame her/him. it's YOUR responsibility to make sure your "DC" is you at all times.

i'm sure the couple from woodbury did not maliciously do this. adn what he said.. you don't know what exactly happened before she went missing.
you can be mr or mrs perfect and still forget.
thankfully, chase is still here with me. alive and kicking. i would hate to experience this. i NEVER EVER want to experience this.

1)I don't really understand the point of this statement? Does living in Woodbury mean automatically that you are an excellent parent?
2) No one said they were from Woodbury she said the store was in Woodbury?
To the OP I don't understand how you can walk out of the store without your child But people never cease to amaze me these days.

Actually, it was woodbury commons up in Dutchess County- in Harriman/ Central Valley NY. But I don't think this makes a difference.
I think justhir was saying that they didn't do it maliciously- it was an oversight. I understand that- but how do TWO people walk out of a store and neither one of them realize they don't have their kid with them.

Re: Leaving your child at a store
I can't imagine both parents leaving the store. I would not leave unless I found my DS. I mean, I know they can run and hide, but I wouldnt leave the store without finding him first. Makes me wonder what the parents were thinking when they BOTH left the store. I could see one leaving in search for the child, but both, no way.

An oversight is forgetting to pay your credit card bill. This doesn't even have a name

Re: Leaving your child at a store
Well we were in BRU 2 days ago and this couple with 3 boys left their baby girl in the stroller in the middle of the store. They were on line to pay and the stroller was in another area. I saw them earlier so I knew it was their child and pointed them out to DH to go get them. They just looked shocked that they forgot they had a baby wth them. I found it soo nutz!

Re: Leaving your child at a store
i did mean woodbury commons outlet. i was jsut too lazy to type all of that out.
anyway. i would imagine they were consumed with fear during those 10mins. flushed when realizing, trying to think of the best action to take, backtracking their footsteps... you know what? remmeber that woman who accidentally locked her kid in the car for hours while she went abotu her day at work. her kid died. i recall seeing a video from teh police station's questioning room. she was filled with remorse, pain, agony, loss, etx. this woman had several hours to remember. but she didn't until teh day was over. it took this couple from woodbury commons 10mins to reunite with their child.
i know the circumstance is different if your nick pick. one person v two, for example. but not everything's black and white. just be glad to hear that there's a happier ending for the woodbury commons outlet family. and i'm not validating the couple's mistake. i'm jsut letting it go with a bit of a shameful tsk. they'll learn from this, i'm sure.

I think the issue for me is the dad's comment when they found their DC.

Re: Leaving your child at a store
You really can't pass judgement here. It's very possible the parents left separately and thought the other had the child. I agree what the dad said was pretty moronic, but we really have NO idea of the background.

Only the parents know the real story but this is what I was thinking as well.

Re: Leaving your child at a store
Wow. I don't care what the circumstances are, what the father said was totally inappropriate and egregious. There's nothing on this planet that Alex could do that would elicit that kind of response from me if I were separated from her!

Re: Leaving your child at a store
My 3 yr. old doesn't get out of his stroller when we are out. THe only time I'll ever take him by the hand is if it's just he and I or when i take them out to play at the closed in kids play area at the malls. This is my worst fear!

Re: Leaving your child at a store
Devil's advocate - did one parent think the other one had her?
Not that its ok - even if I think DH has Cailen, I always make sure I know where he is, because thats how accidents ahppen in a room full of adults...
If Cailen doesn't stop this tantrum thing, though.... JOKE - just KIDDING!!!

Re: Leaving your child at a store
Wait a minute?! We can leave our children in stores?!
What am I paying daycare for?!
My guess is either the kid did wander off (in which case even though it's the parent's fault, you still need to reprimand your child so they don't do it again) or both parents thought the other one had the child (in which case they were probably beathing themselves up over it anyway). My mom did this with our neighbor in a mall - they didn't lose one kid...they lost three 2.5 year olds- me, my sister & our neighbor's daughter.

Re: Leaving your child at a store
not that its an excuse AT ALL... but maybe each parent thought the other one had the child. its probably easy to do.... it happened years ago to our neighbors. they were having a picnic in the summer. they had a pond in the backyard... each parent thought the other one had their 14 month old daughter ( and there were a bunch of other people there, too). the daughter ended up wandering into the pond and drowning and these are very good, very religious, caring people.... not saying it was right at all, but sometimes things happen
