Leaving your pup for work in the AM...
I am now attending school full-time and I work full-time. Charlotte is starting to get used to my schedule and when I eat breakfast, about 5-10 minutes before I leave she walks over (slowly) puts her head on my lap and just sighs - she KNOWS! She knows I'm about to leave and I feel SO bad.
I give her a bone to chew on, I give her all of her toys in her little area, she has a bed, etc. I mean, she is never home alone for more than FOUR hours at the most between MIL coming home, DH coming home, and since my schedule is between two places - I come and go as well. But she is just so used to me being home with her all day b/c I was a HW for a long time.
Anyone else deal with this? Poor pup - that face she gives me breaks my heart. Four hours at the most isn't a lot, right?? Thanks for listening.

ITA - Mine is home alone all day - She sleeps anyway. And for the random day off we have once in awhile during the week she's a bit ticked that we've disturbed her schedule - TRY to get her to go for a walk before 6PM - NOT happening, she's napping !! -

Re: Leaving your pup for work in the AM...
Dottie is home for about 8 hours. If I know it's going to be longer than that, I call my mom and she goes over and lets her out. 4 hours is nothing! Don't worry.
Breaks my heart every morning, but if we dont' work, she doesn't get treats.
Her new thing is she brings the treat I leave her to the door and drops it at my feet as I'm leaving.

Re: Leaving your pup for work in the AM...
My Puppy is home alone all day also. DH & I leave the house around 8am and come home at 5:30pm. I try to run home everyday at lunch, but there is an occasional time that I can't due to my work schedule.
She is fine and I actually leave the TV on for her just so she feels like she is not alone (Might not help, but I feel better doing this)
She sleeps most of the day since she is only 10-weeks old.
I still feel horrible leaving her there & I miss her during the day, but until we win Lotto , we need to work

this makes me feel so much better!
she is spoiled - ok, i admit it, lol - but she acts like if we leave her for an hour it is a lot! she plays on the fact that she KNOWS i feel guilty!

the TV might help - i used to put music on for char.
she is so adorable - what kind of dog is she? i don't recognize her but she is SO cute - and looks really sweet.

I know exactly how you feel. My dogs are never home alone more than 4 or 5 hours, and I don't think 4 hours is a lot at all. But they hate it either way. They love us so much, and just want to be with us, it breaks my heart.
I really think it also depends on the breed or personality of the dog.

Re: Leaving your pup for work in the AM...
Katie is by herself from 8:30 to 5:30. Sometimes I come home on my lunch break and she is sound asleep, it takes her a while to come to the door. When I leave a I turn on the radio and give her a Kong with a treat on it which occupies her for a while. I wouldn't worry about 4 hours- she's probably just getting her beauty rest.
