let's be honest

Who has had a drink or two during their pregnancy? I haven't yet, because I'm still in my first tri-mester and don't want to take any risks. But I will probably have the occasional glass on wine after that.
Of course it was a very different time, but my dad tells me that his mother never drank. But for some reason when she was pregnant with my dad and his brother, she craved wine and had a glass a day.
I hope I don't get reamed for this. Chat Icon

I had wine when I was pg with Alex. We were living iin Europe and it is much more accepted there. I never got drunk and didn't have more than a glass at a time, but I did have a drink. Also, if I wanted to "drink" when I was out with friends I would have an Oduls or a non-alcoholic beer.

Re: let's be honest

I personally have not had one sip of alcohol just b/c for me, one glass of wine or one beer (neither of which i drink regularly anyway) would not do anything and I don't feel the need. I like martini's and would never have one although I would love one!

When I was 16 weeks we went to Napa Valley for our birthdays and we visited 5 vineyards. Out of the five I did a wine tasting at two of them. They give you 3 wines to try and only 2 oz of each and if I didn't like the taste of the wine I didnt finish it. I told my doctor when I am came back and she said that it was fine.

I haven't yet in either of my 2 pregnancies. But to my credit, I am not a drinker to begin with. But what I find funny is that I do crave an alcohol drink every now and then. It's weird, but I don't.

Re: let's be honest

I can honestly say that I have not had any alcohol during my first or this pregnancy. I have been craving a cosmo in this one though but I just won't do it. I can wait until after.

From the sounds of it, one glass of wine won't harm your baby...if you want it, go for it!

Re: let's be honest

I am not a drinker but I would never do it. There is never a reason that I would NEED a drink soooo badly. It is like smoking..my baby just didn't need that stuff in her body.

I'm not much of a drinker in general. I had a few sips of wine at my bf's wedding at 7-1/2 months.

Re: let's be honest

I personally have not had any, but I really don't think a drink every now and then is going to do any harm. My doctor said it is fine to have a glass of wine every so often if I need to relax. I am just not that big a drinker even when not PG.

I always thought I would be the person that would have a drink here and there. However, now that I am preggo...to me, it just does not seem worth it. I realized that god forbid anything were to ever happen or if this child were to have any kind of disability/malformity that I would FOREVER blame myself for it.
But this is just me.

In the 2ww , no harm can be done from drinking because the baby doesnt even have a blood stream yet to absorb any of the alcohol....

After that, the 2 times I was PG, The first time I had a glass of wine when my Uncle Died per Dr's orders...red wine has magnesuim in it, helps if pre term labor or contractions are happening, and one glass does not have enough alcohol in it to do anything. But I never had anything else after that becuase I just didnt feel like it.

Re: let's be honest

I usually take a sip of whatever Al's drinking. After hitting my 2nd trimester, I've had a occasional half of glass of wine here and there.

When I was having sleeping problems, my doctor suggested a glass of wine to help me sleep better.

Re: let's be honest

I've had a one or two during the duration of the pregnancy. I had a glass of champagne for my 30th bday and a taste here and there from DH's when we were in Napa. I haven't wanted or enjoyed wine since becoming preggo, but I have a definite craving for a glass of champagne every so often. Very weird b/c I never drank it b4.

Exactly!! God forbid something were to happen, I would drive myself with the what ifs..."what if I didn't have that glass of wine",,,there's no way I could deal with that...

So for me, not even a sip of anything. I lovveeeee wine, it's been hard, but it's not worth it to me.

Re: let's be honest

Im not a big drinker at all - but when i wasn't pregnant - i enjoyed a drink or two when i was out.

During my pregnancy - ill have an occasional sip of my husband's drink wheneve we are out - that's it. Im much too paranoid to have a whole drink by myself - not worth it in my opinion.
