Let's get some heated debate going to move this afternoon along-8 teenager who beat up a girl
Curious to know how anyone who have felt had this victim pulled out a gun and shot one of the other girls?
I'm thinking back to some of the debate made in the John White case. It's an angry mob, no weapons among the mob (that I know about at least)-so there are some comparables.
Just curious.

did the girls who beat her use weapons? i didnt see tape.
Im not sure about the law, but i think its only self defense if someone has a weapon they are using to beat you with. NOT SURE OF THIS JUST SAYING.

I think the girl had EVERY right to defend herself if she felt her life was in danger

Well, the first glaring difference is that in the case in Fl, the girl was ambushed, kidnapped and beaten until knocked unconscious, then beaten again when she awoke.
John White waited for 20 minutes after hearing that some kids might be coming, did nothing to call the cops or prevent it, waited for the kids to get to the perimiter of his property, saw no weapon & killed one.
Bit of a difference, but to answer the original question, if she thought her life was in danger maybe. I'd be very conerned about how a teen would randomly have a gun in this case though. Maybe if she saw one in the house they took her too.....
The difference is just because you say something is self-defense doesn't actually mean it is self-defense (except that ridiculous ruling in the John White case). JMHO

Re: Let's get some heated debate going to move this afternoon along-8 teenager who beat up a girl
hmm. there's other things to think about.
Why would this young girl bring a weapon with her to the other girl's house? Did she have some reason to believe that she would be in danger? if so, why not stay home? tell someone?
Also, she is too young to have a gun permit, whereas if it were a licensed gun carrying adult, they could use self defense as an excuse.
FYI, she wasn't beaten with a weapon. She got a beaten from 8 girls with their fists. It was brutal.

I don't think so; but this ended up being a pretty nasty beating. She could have died just from the beating alone.
I'm just wondering what would be the reaction from people if this gang came to hunt her down, and she shot one of them before they got the chance to attack her.

Lots of differences I agree. The thing that interests me is we know the outcome of this case-the mob kicked the cr@p out of her. Had she shot them before that got the chance to, what would we think of that.
Is it okay to shoot in "self defense" only if you know the outcome-which would really never be the case.
I honestly don't know what I would think.

I honestly don't know what I would think. Had she done it to prevent a beating? Maybe, if they got into her house, which it seems they did. The biggest difference IMO, is that in the White case he seemed to have prior knowledge and chose not to alert the police or ask for help, he instead chose to arm himself with illegal firearms. I do not think the teen in FL knew she was going to get ambushed....
Maybe if she knew and chose to arm herself and "trap" them I'd equate them as the same. Does that make sense? ETA: Also that is a big difference between being a child and being an adult. As an adult, society expects you to act in a responsible and sensible manner. As a child, with limits, I feel this expectation is different if the minor feels threatened by a real threat.
