Let's Talk About Birthday Parties

So, we will be keeping a big party for Ella's first birthday but we will not be keeping big parties for every birthday only some birthdays.

Will you be keeping big birthday parties for each birthday or just certain birthdays?

Re: Let's Talk About Birthday Parties

So far the plan is to have a big party for his first, and then just smaller kiddie or family parties for the rest.

Re: Let's Talk About Birthday Parties

In my family it is usually a big 1st b-day and than usually just a party for the kids after that and cake at someone's house for the family and close friends.

Re: Let's Talk About Birthday Parties

WE would like to go big for the first and keep it small for 2,3, 4 then go big for 5. Something along those lines, but we'll see when the time comes.

Re: Let's Talk About Birthday Parties

We have a small family, so the first 4 were small, since it was predominantly family. Starting with DS's 5th, we're inviting classmates, and having it at a location, so technically it will be "big" compared to previous b-days. We'll probably do that for quite a while.

Re: Let's Talk About Birthday Parties

The first birthday is a big party.

I don't think I will do anything crazy for the second bc he will still not have any idea.

For the third and from then on - I will most likely always have kiddie parties - and then something with family. Maybe I will combine the two sometimes - who knows.

I have alot of cousins with kids and friends, so even if I try to keep it small, it just won't happen~ Growing up, we had kid parties and then the aunts/uncles came over for coffee and cake, so that is what we will do as well!

ETA: For his 2nd birthday, I really want to get Tumble Bus!

I am still nt to sure yet. I want to go all out for his 1st but he wont really remember it. However, for the ones after his first I definitely always want to go all out.

This is my plan for DS but I think DD's will alway be a little bigger since she is a summer baby.

Re: Let's Talk About Birthday Parties

I have big parties every year for both of my kids.

In fact, as I get more and more ideas, the parties are getting bigger and bigger. Chat Icon

I LOVE putting them together, my kids love having them, so why not.

I'm sure when my sons are 10 and 13 they won't want them anymore. Chat Icon

So I am taking advantage of it now.

In my family - we still celebrate our birthdays every year until you turn 25. Big Old Jumping Parties! That's how we roll! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Once you turn 25....I guess you are then considered an "adult" Chat Icon

Re: Let's Talk About Birthday Parties

DS has a party with his friends every year. No family since they live out of state. DD is having a big first, well big for us, and will probably do something small out somewhere for subsequent years. I could never not have a party because I just love putting together the favors! Chat Icon

Re: Let's Talk About Birthday Parties

A large first one. Its a milestone to me and I want to celebrate it.

After that probably just a small party till he reaches school age and then a friends one and a family cake night.

Same here. I would have done a smaller 1st B-day, but we had a very small Baptismal, and a lot of people were upset that they were not invited.

Re: Let's Talk About Birthday Parties

No, my family and DH thinks it is silly for us to have a big party for her 1st where she won't enjoy it - we are just having family and a select group of our close friends. DH felt a big party for her now is more for us and our family than for her.

We are saving the bigger parties for when she can have her friends and can enjoy it (even if she won't necessarily remember it). Then we will do the bigger more exciting things.

Re: Let's Talk About Birthday Parties

We have big parties for the 1st. It's not necessarily my desire, but we have a ton of friends and family we have to invite. This turned into another big party for the 2nd b-day--and I cut out a ton of people. I figure, we'll have pretty big parties until the girls have their own friends and then it will be a small school friends only type thing. My parents never had big parties for us at any point.

Re: Let's Talk About Birthday Parties

I am having a (relativley) big party for DS. It's at the same restaurant as my 30th bday party so I like that. In truth it's a celebration for all of us- for getting through this 1st year and celebrating our year with our son.

Will he remember it? Of course not, but that's why there are photos. DH and I and the grandparents will remember it. People take lots of trips etc that their DC won't remember either so that's not a justification not to have a party.

I'm excited to honor his 1st year and want to celebrate it with the people who love him.
