Let's talk bathroom tile on the walls
Does anyone have tile floor to ceiling in their bathroom?
How is the maintenance/clean-up?
Would you recommend it?
Why? Why not?
I saw a bathroom that I love with tile and was wondering if it was much more practical than paint.
TIA

I have tile up to the ceiling, but the ceiling itself is painted.
Works for me. Maintenance is simple and I like the look.

Re: Let's talk bathroom tile on the walls
there's a lot more to maintain, such as grout cleaning and glazing and such... i would rather paint. But, that's just me. one bathroom i have is small and has all tile... not a fan.

Re: Let's talk bathroom tile on the walls
My mom's bathroom is all tile - top to bottom.
Maint is so easy, just wipe the tiles! No stains...
BUT - hanging stuff on the wall would be a pain - like a pic or something. When they tiled she had the bathroom stuff up already - towel bar, TP holder, etc...

The contractor that did my bathroom hung a TP bar, Towel bar, handicap bar (to hold onto to step into my soaking tub), shower curtain bar, mirror over the sink, and over the john cabinet... all onto tile.
Mounting items to tile can be done. You just have to be careful.

We have that, I hate it. I guess the maintenance is nice, but I just don't like the look.

I like just tiling the bathtub area. That way, you can repaint the bathroom whenever you want and totally change the look of the room for $30 and one day....

That's how I feel, and it's what we have. White subway tile and a little bit of wall to add some color.

Re: Let's talk bathroom tile on the walls
Mine is all tile. Cleaning is easy. Personally not a fan of the look (it's ALL white and kind of old), but we can't afford to redo the whole thing right now.

Re: Let's talk bathroom tile on the walls
we had ours redone last year all tile, and the ceiling is painted. I love it, so easy to clean/ maintain! the only problem is eventually when you get sick of it, you have to change the whole thing.

Re: Let's talk bathroom tile on the walls
my mom has it, it's easy to clean. But, if you plan on being where you are for a long time, it's a commitment to the decor of your bathroom.

Re: Let's talk bathroom tile on the walls
our downstairs bathroom was tile all over- entire walls, ceiling and floors and we HATED it!!!! the tiles above the shower were a PIA to clean, to constantly wipe down the entire walls had to get ladder and hated that too, and decor, we couldnt hang anything but the towel bars and tp holder and then after a while those became loose and we had to regrout around them after tightening.
we now have half bead board with trim and paint on top and subway tile only in the shower area up to ceiling and tile on the floor what a difference, we love it!!! the ceiling in the shower is paint with a high hat.

Re: Let's talk bathroom tile on the walls
tile half way up the walls is great. I like having the option of changing the look by changing the paint color. Our new bathroom we only did tile in the shower, paint on all the walls & a wood floor. However its not a kids bathroom or the only bath in the house.

Re: Let's talk bathroom tile on the walls
we've redone 2 bathrooms so far ( one in our old house, and one in this one). in both, we did tile halfway up the wall... i liked it because you still have some wall you can paint to give it a slightly different look, but the tile is easy to clean, too.

ITA! Much easier and a lot less money to change the decor.

Re: Let's talk bathroom tile on the walls
My husband is a contractor and does that a lot in homes he works on and also in our house. I love the look and so easy to clean... much better than painting the wall... you don't have to worry about the paint peeling when you take too many hot showers.
