Level II question - Particularly for those who did not have it done in your dr.'s office

My dr. doesn't do the Level II/20wk sono in his office so I will have to go to the hospital he is affiliated with. My question is whether you get the "results" from the Level II on the spot or do you have to wait like the Ultrascreen test. Like do they tell you everything is a-ok or do you have to wait until your dr.s visit or call? If so, how long do the results take and what kind of results are they?

Sorry for all the questions!Chat Icon

I thought the level II is just your 20wk sono where they go over every ounce of the baby, measurements and well, the organs that tell you boy or girl.

I went with my sisters to hers and it was outside of her docs office and the tech just basically told her all was really good and told her the sex.

I dont think they can say too much and do leave that for the doctor.

I had to go to LIJ for both my NT and Level II. The doctor pretty much told me the estimated weight and that everything looked good - he was pleased with what he saw - healthy baby. My doctor confirmed at my next appt. I'm not sure if it would be the same if something was wrong. Although if something were wrong I am sure our doctors would not wait until the next appt - they would call when they got the results to follow up.

I saw them do the whole test. The tech told me that the measurements she was taking were within the realm of normal & then told me that she saw that my placenta was covering my cervix. She asked if I had any bleeding so far in my PG & I had, so I was glad to finally get an explanation.

I did the level II at Madonna & they had a High-rick doctor on staff there. If the tech saw anything that needed attention the Dr would have come in to discuss it while DH & I were there.

Good luck at the test...it is about 30 minutes to an hour & you get to see soooooooo much!Chat Icon

I went to Madonna in Babylon and they did the measurements. She would tell us what we were looking at and them told us that the measurement was within the normal range. I basically knew that everything was ok based on what she said as she was doing the measurements. We could also clearly see that it was a boy. She asked us if we wanted to know the sex and I said I really didnt need her to tell what it was, I could clearly see!!!

We went to NYU for the level 2. The tech went through all the measurements and evaluations - telling us what organs were what - and that everything looked fine. Results and pictures were sent to my Dr's office and we met with him a week later (We went the day after christmas and my dr's office was closed, so we had to wait a little longer)

I asked the doctor prior to our visit what would happen if something went wrong - and he said that during the procedure - if something looked "off" they would get an NYU doctor in the hospital to look at the screen and he would be called - then they'd email him all the images and get him on the phone right then.

I'm sure everything will go smoothly for you! Chat Icon

I went to a perinatology office and they told us that everything looked good and that it was a boy.

It depends on who is doing the sonogram...

Essentially a technician isnt suppose to give you the results...the results of her scan are evaluated by a doctor and then the results are given either to your doctor via a report or if you are lucky and the doctor (radiologist or perinatalogist) is there in the office, to you directly...

At LIJ the Level II is done by a doctor so the results would be given to you right away...and at the Womens Health Center at Huntington Hospital they are done by a doctor as well so you would get the results....

Look at it this way your doctor is your doctor not the babies..I would much rather have a perinatalogist do the scan than an OB.

Pretty much. The tech says stuff like: "this is the heart, it is measuring up nicely." "here is the femur, great size..." They can give you an idea of whether they are seeing good vs. questionable after all, they are trained to perform and examine the pics they take. It's more screening than definite diagnosis...but all in all, it is used to check growth and/or size of the baby's entire anatomy.

Went to Madonna also. They told us what we were looking but the actual results were to Dr.
