Level two concern...kind of long..

I had my ultrascreen at a “high risk” division of the hospital. So, when I scheduled my level II ultrasound for today and it was at a radiology office, I was surprised. At first, I actually went to where I had my ultrascreen because I thought I was supposed to go there (my doctor never told me I had to go to a different location). When I went there, I was told that they do not do twin level 2 ultrasounds on Saturdays. The person then told me the location for my appointment was a few miles away. Therefore, I went to the new place and it was a radiology office. I had the ultrasound done, but I was told by someone (a technician who works at a “high risk” office full time and radiology on the weekend ) that I should have had the procedure done by a “high risk” office/specialist. The reason being is that they look at a lot more than a radiologist does. For example, I have been told that a radiologist does not look for down syndrome markers among other things.

After the level 2, I paged my doctor and she called me back. I questioned why the ultrasound was done by a radiologist, but she insisted that where I went was correct and they would be able to see enough from the ultrasound.

The bottom line is that I am getting two opinions and I am not sure whom to believe. The technician I know does both “high risk” and regular radiology work for a living and she said there is a big difference and I should have had the ultrasound done at a “high risk” facility. My doctor is telling me that the radiologist is trained for this test.

I do not know whom to believe and what to do.

I was pregnant with twins and was not considered high risk. I had age on my side and my OB thought since I had such a smooth pregnancy eventhough I conceived Via IVF.

I also developed GD and all of my sonograms/ultrasounds were done at the regular hospital.

I hope that helps! I am sure that everything is okay!

I had a regualr ultrasound for my level 2. When they could not get good pictures of one of thier hearts and something else, I cna't remeber what, they send me to a high risk place for them to redo those parts. I don't think it is necessary. If there is any uncertainity they will have someone else redo it.

I will have my level two at the high risk place in the hospital, but I am considered high risk because they are identical twins that share a placenta so there are additional things they look for.

Re: Level two concern...kind of long..

I can see your concern. I had my level 2 at a high risk office. My doctor sent me to a place called Madonna Perinatal Services in Brightwaters and they did teh downs test there. They also measured my cervix to make sure it's strong and not thinning. I guess with two they are extra careful. They actually said that they want me every 3-4 weeks to monitor my progress. I'm sure that every doctor is different, but that they were trained just as well.
