Levittown Daycare Violations
Hi, we have been searching daycare centers online for any violations on the wesite
http://www.ocfs.state.ny.us
We are moving to levittown and see that many of the places do in fact have some kind of violation. Knowing this, would you still consider these facilities. The problem is I can only see the regulation which was violated, but not the how specifically it was violated.
We are considering Tudor Time and TLC daycare for a 1 year old.
Can anyone recommend or give 1st hand info on these. Both have violations according to the website.

Re: Levittown Daycare Violations
Almost all daycare centers that have been open for a while have some violation in their history. Consider how long ago it was, how serious it was, how frequently a center gets them and whether it is listed as having been corrected. As I was looking at centers, there were a few places that seemed acceptable to me, then during the time I was researching they had another inspection and got serious violations. I know of one center that was able to show proof of what was done to correct a violation. You also have to decide what you would do if you learn of a new violation after your child starts. Good luck. Definitely visit thecenters to get a feel for them. There were some that I just didn't feel right about, despite good reviews.

ITA - visit the daycare center with your list of questions - visit it multiple times at different times during the day - its a tough decision I know...

Re: Levittown Daycare Violations
Have you checked out Big Cheif. It's in East Meadow but right near the boarder of Levittown, Wantagh, Bellmore and EM.
My SIL lives in Levittown and went there.
I agree that you should visit but I suggest popping in to visit. Say you were in the area looking for daycare. Many places prefer that you call first but that's more the reason to pop up.
As for violations some are way bigger than others so checking it out first hand might help you decide.

Re: Levittown Daycare Violations
we were actually going to put our son into Big Chief, we enrolled him and everything, but the only draw back is that they follow East Meadow school districts school calender. So they are closed when the schools are closed, which was way to many holidays for us. It's great if your a teacher , but there closed for a week at Christmas, a week in February for winter recess, a week and 3 days in April for Easter/passover, and plus Columbus day, Veterans day, and election day, and other holidays,. As well as it's extra money if you need to drop off early and pick up later, the hours are 9-4, so we were going to have to pay extra for dropping off early in the AM, and picking up in the PM... So we just canceled it.
We are actually going to be using Teachers Pet in Levittown on North Jerusalem road, across from Macarthur High School. I grew up in Levittown as well as living here now, Alot of teachers that I know that work at Gardiners and Salk/Macarthur send there kids there.
Hope this helps...

Re: Levittown Daycare Violations
Our son was in Tutor Time. Not anymore though since I stay at home with him now during the week. We did have an issue with an assistant. We did not feel she was "adequate" for the job.
The infant teacher was great.
DH still see one of the moms who had a child the same age as DS.
She said the 12-18 months class teacher was really good. We know her because she usually watches the infant at night.
They had their violations. There were corrected. In the end, we always addressed our concerns with the Director.

Re: Levittown Daycare Violations
I will try and help you out here.
When centers get a violation it is from a certain category. While the violation will be specific, on their website it will be the general category it falls under.
For example:
07/12/2007 418-1.5(j) Serious Corrected Brief Description: All matches, lighters, medicines, drugs, cleaning materials, detergents, aerosol cans and other poisonous or toxic materials must be stored in their original containers, used in such a way that they will not contaminate play surfaces, food or food preparation areas, or constitute a hazard to children, and kept in a place inaccessible to children.
Sounds scary like they are leaving dangerous things all over the place, but the violation itself could be that a licensing rep found a empty bottle that once contained cleaning fluid in an unused draw. While it was a dopey move on the teacher's part, she should of throw it away. It still goes down as a serious violation. So I would really just use your judgement, visit a few times before you commit to a center.

Re: Levittown Daycare Violations
It would depend on the violation & if it was not corrected. If there were repeated violations say in having kids out of ratio, I would pass.
