LI housing partnership
DH and I went to a major bank to inquire about a mortgage for a co-op. We were told if DH goes on the loan alone he is eligible for a grant towards closing costs thru LI housing partnership.
Anyone hear of this, and is it really true?

Re: LI housing partnership
Yes it is. Fannie Mae, and other govt programs are developed to help out 1st time home buyers. You can add yourr name to the deed after you close

Re: LI housing partnership
Yeah, there are reqirements. if you qualiy, it can be grants, very low closing cost, etc..
LIHP also has programs to get you into affordable housing. with this, you have to "win" the lotto to get it.
DW and I put applciation in for the Townhomes at the Village of Huntington West.. over 2000 applications and only 30 150k homes to give away. we were sad cause we ddidn't win

Re: LI housing partnership
When we were applying for our mortgage, our bank told us to make an appt. to go and see them. He guaranteed us that we would get $$$ off our closing costs. If you want more details, FM. Let me apologize now if I don't get back to you right away, but I will.

Re: LI housing partnership
We had to have a meeting with them to qualify to the Neighborhood Champions program with Bank of America. Too bad we did it a week before closing, b/c it was very informative. I recommend ANYONE going to meet with a counselor there, regardless of income; they'll show you how not to get ripped off by your bank.
