LI IVF question - Injection instruction
Dr. Brenner told me to call and make an appointment for an injection class. I just spoke to the woman from the office, and she said they no longer have a class/meeting, and that I should look up how to do it on the websites she gave me. Has anyone heard of this?
ETA: I just watched one of the videos and I am sitting here crying thinking about what this whole process involves. I really don't feel comfortable NOT taking a class of some sort.

Re: LI IVF question - Injection instruction
They just told me this yesterday. I think if you ask one of the nurses on the next visit they would probably be happy to help you a bit more. I am actually happy not to have to do the class. I have too much to do as it it. I may change my mind when I watch the video though.

Re: LI IVF question - Injection instruction
OMg well last week after my first IUI the PA asked me if I had the ovidrel, which I did and she asked me if anyone showed me how to do it? ummm no? so she gave me the dvd and went over it quickly. We came home and just did it...I'm not sure if we did it right but we did it. I was a little shocked that they didn't give a little more instruction for using a syringe on yourself.

Re: LI IVF question - Injection instruction
I learned on my own- we never took a class. My dr offered to let us borrow a video, but I had already watched it online. It's just a matter of going straight in, not at an angle at all. The needles are small. DH and I always ice the area for a few minutes first, then do the rubbing alcohol swab, let it dry, then inject. Let the needle stay in for at least 5 seconds after you've pressed it all the way in, then withdraw the needle. Then place gauze over the area. I think fertility lifelines had the instruction videos- otherwise just type in the name of the medicine and video and you should find some online. GL!!!

Re: LI IVF question - Injection instruction
Wow, they must have just stopped the classes. I did a class back in February. To be honest, I got way more out of watching the DVD in the privacy of my home than I did the class. You aren't missing much. The shots are easy to do.

Re: LI IVF question - Injection instruction
When I was doing injects with IUI I did not go to a class. The nurse showed me quickly before I started. Then when I went in on CD 3 they reviewed it again with me. But, when I did IVF I had to go to the class, which at that point was a waste of time and money as I'd done it 3 times. The videos are good and you should have instructions from the pharmacy.
Don't panic. It's so much easier than it looks. The needles are small (wait till you see a POI needle, whew, that is long). It shouldn't hurt at all (though some people are more sensitive than others). What meds are you using again?
I had a panic attach before i did my first gonal-f pen shot because when I primed it nothing came out the top (a little is supposed to come out the needle). then I read the instructions (after my crying fit) that if nothing comes out just prime it again. Then I was fine. And I felt nothing. It doesn't feel like the needle when they take blood, its very thin. I did start with my thigh and not my stomach. Nurse suggested it b/c the thigh is a lot tougher than the stomach area, which is not so used to be exposed etc...
But, now I do it in the stomach. I don't know, I convinced myself that I get better follie numbers with it. I'm sure its not true.
Good luck!

Re: LI IVF question - Injection instruction
I didn't go to a class neither. Actually the nurse in the office showed me what to do. What I was nervous about was setting up the trigger shot. When she told me that the trigger had to go in my thigh I nearly passed out. Then when the time came to actually do the injection, my adrenalin was so high, when I did it, I just crashed. I have to say, I would rather take a shot in the stomach any day.
I know that on You Tube, there were some videos on how to do the injections.

Re: LI IVF question - Injection instruction
You guys are the best! I really needed the reassurance. I really don't know what I would do without you all I will watch the videos a few times and hopefully get an idea of what needs to be done. My best friend is an RN and I am hoping that she can be with me the first couple of times to teach me exactly what to do. I am not sure what meds I will be on. We haven't gotten that far yet. I am assuming gonal-f, but I could be wrong. Still waiting for AF to arrive (only on day 6 of provera).
Thanks again!

You will probably be on Follistim or Gonal F. It may also depend on what your insurance will pay for. Dr. B. chose Follistim for me because the dial up increments are smaller but the meds are identical. It's really easy, don't sweat it.

Re: LI IVF question - Injection instruction
When we were at LIIVF for our IVF interview, the nurse asked if we wanted an injection class right then...we said yes. This was only like 3 weeks ago! Don't worry - I feel like I forgot everything we learned already, so it's like we never even had a class!!!
