Re: LI vs Anywhere else
I am, but I cannot come up with somewhere good to go. DH is a lawyer and wants to be near a city. Most places near a major city are expensive. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Re: LI vs Anywhere else
We're thinking of relocating also, but our families are here. How does anyone decide where to move?
It's so complicated.

It's not easy. We made so many lists it wasn't even funny. In the end it came down to our future and our dreams. What we wanted vs. what we see happening in NY. The move, for us, was crystal clear. The "American Dream" is pretty hard to obtain here, not to mention the fact that we want our kids to grow up with a big yard and freedom...all things that are hard in NYC (where we live) and LI is out of the question.
I'm lucky, my entire family lives out of state, so it was up to DH to decide if he was willing to leave his behind. Luckily, he told me that I'm his family.
Good luck!!

Re: LI vs Anywhere else
Thanks for the advice. My parents and my younger wbrother would be living with us.
Both of our extended families are all here. But there is no way with my parents retiring soon, that we would be able to afford Long Island.

I def. agree w/ you. The benefits of DH & I leaving are 100 to 1. If we stay I will have to live w/ regret that we could have domne more for our daughter. I know it will be tough at first but we will get through it.

Re: LI vs Anywhere else
Only other place we considered was the DC Metro area and prices are not better there so it really does not make sense for us to leave.

Re: LI vs Anywhere else
I would say that DH and I are on the 5 year plan. We had a long long talk and decided that if things didn't get better for us within the next 5 years, we will take action and have to move. Both our families are here so we really don't want to, but living on Long Island right now is killing us. We are both busting our butts to live here and we aren't in our dream home, we are in the "we had a baby coming need to buy a home now" home
We both work full-time, we make good money, but it just isn't enough. I have a 1 year old daughter that I need to put first, and thats what I keep telling myself.

Re: LI vs Anywhere else
I'm not even ready to leave the city for LI on a permanent basis... I have been out here for 3 months and I can't wait to go back to our apartment in the city in the spring! I don't think I will ever be moving out of the area.

Re: LI vs Anywhere else
We talked about it, but.. I've moved around so much that I really don't want to move.
I know it's hard here, but that means we have to work harder. If we try harder and cut out some silly things we spend $$ on, then, it's actually ok. If in a couple of years, we're not progressing, I'd say we'd considering moving. DH's job will transfer him to NC now. Hopefully, that would still be an option in 2/3 years.
