Re: LI Winery Review
Glad you had a good time. I love doing winery tours and tastings.
We actually did the wineries last weekend...but, here in PA...there's a Lehigh Valley Wine Trail.

Re: LI Winery Review
We go to the wineries a lot and had some different opinions - here are some of our comments on these and others.
Palmer...decent wines and atmosphere with frequent events. The servers often seem distracted and not very conversational when you ask about the wines.
Martha Clara... Great wine, great atmosphere but pourers are just that - serving it up but not wine enthusiats that will educate. Lots of events.
Lieb...decor is very Manhatten high-tech look - black and stainless, not country charm. Lots of stainless tank fermented wines instead of oak barrel so it's a different taste. We've always found that they served some unique cheeses with crackers as part of the tasting but haven't been there in several months. Very knowledgable pourers.
Macari..definately pretty - we've found some good wines there. They usually offer two different "flights" for sampling that can be pricy. The Block E Ice Wine is fantastic if you like the dessert wines. Pourers are knowledgable and very willing to chat about the wines if they are not crowded. Nice gift selection too.
Borgese...Pretty, with some events. The Allegra desert wine is very good. Nothing else jumps out at me as a must have, but can't say we disliked any.
Pamanauk...One of the friendliest of the wineries - still family owned and the pourers are often family members. Some very tasty wines and lots of good conversation about the winery when they are not busy.
Waters Crest - one of our very favorites, with some of the best events on the east end when it comes to wineries. Jim Waters is absolutely passionate about his winemaking and he's got some of the best around. They are in a small strip mall just east of Lieb so it looks like something you might pass by - don't! It's well worth the stop.
Shinn - off the beaten track, it's owned by the owners of Home restuarant in NYC. Very nice people and good wines - we've only been there once but it's on our list to return.
Roanoake - pretty far west on Sound Ave., a charming atmosphere with some nice wines. Owned by the winemaker for Wollfer, they carry Wollfer wines too.
Bedell and Corey Creek - lovely settings, and friendly people, some nice wines and if you purchase a tasting at one you get a free tasting at the other.
Lenz - Good wines, nice setting with friendly pourers that are very willing to talk about the wines.

Re: LI Winery Review
We went to Martha Clara the day we got engaged. I loved it! It was my first winery though... we went to their HArvest Festival which was FUN! The next one is sometime in mid-october.. I highly recommend it!

i never got to go to Roanoake...and now i am ******.. I like Wollfer wines
I am personally not a fan of Bedell... I have gone there a few times and never have walked out with a bottle..
Same with Lenz
Lieb...offered NO cheeses actually..IN FACT when we asked about it we got a bowl of wheat thins and that was the highlight of the tasting there...YES the servers are knowledgeable..BUT the place is WAY to small and annoying to stay in for more than 5 minutes

Re: LI Winery Review
As for other wineries i have been to there are:
Ospery Dominion: A MUST. Good wine, great desert wine (try the spice wine). It is under construction because it is doubleing in size. SO it is kinda cramped but still worth going to see. Have a good amount of wines to taste for free
Pindar: good wines, especially for the red wine drinker. Beautiful winery but has a tendency to get VERY crowded. They have a lot of cute knick knacks..They do offer wine and cheese for a price. They do have a good amount of different wines to try. a GREAT ice wine.
Pugliese: nice place..so so wines.
Laurel Lake: Pretty winery, good wines. a FABULOUS reisling.
Pellirgini...beautiful winery, nice servers. Offer a few different "flights". Love sitting on the patio and tasting without the crowd at the bar. BEST Chardonney's.
Raphael: Lovely winery...not a fan of the servers or the wine.
Lenz...not a fan of the wine.

We used to get the best cheese and crackers there all the time but last time we went the guy said the laws changed or something and that they weren't allowed to serve any food.
