LI winter run series
Who is going to run the li winter run series?
I hate running in the cold but will do it for races, it is bad training if i run on treadmill for training and only outside for the races? I am only concerned about not breathing right in the cold.
I think i am just going to go for it.

Re: LI winter run series
I was thinking about it...some of the races are a bit far for me, especially if it snows.
I might just take the winter off from racing to give my full attention to training for a sub 2:00 half!

Re: LI winter run series
I hope to do at least 2 of the races! I enjoy running in the cold. No, not bad at all to run indoors. I did a good portion of my half marathon training (for the LI Half in May) on the treadmill and did one of my best times.

Awesome!! You can totally do it! I broke 2 hours at the Diva Half and was so excited!! I hear ya, I will probably only do Robert Moses and Heckscher since I can't see driving all the way to Caumsett and it's such a pain to get there from what I hear. Jones Beach is not too far, but I will probably skip that one too. Robert Moses is very close for me.

Re: LI winter run series
Ugh - just found the schedule- out of the 4, I can only do 1 of the dates- but they have let me drop in in the past to do 1 of the runs - not the whole series - I can do the 9th if anyone is interested...
FYI - here are the dates:

Re: LI winter run series
I'm signed up already (as are two other posters who aren't on this board frequently)
I don't have advice about running exclusively on the TM and then racing outside. I imagine it will be a bit more uncomfortable than if you acclimated yourself to the weather (similar to summer weather), but there was one last year that was 21 degrees and it just hurt, no matter who you were

I think racing helps with speed - even for HMs

It definatly helps with speed. Unfortunatly I think I rely too much on races as my speedwork. I want to try incorporating more speedwork into my training outside of racing!
I still may sign up...I'm up in the air right now. I've been spending so much money on races though! They really add up!

Re: LI winter run series
I run primarily on the TM in the winter since I do not feel comfortable running outside when it is dark. My performance does not really change when I run winter races even though I run on the TM for almost all of my runs from Dec-March. As long as you warm up before the races, you should be fine. I usually do a 15 minute warm up - also - somehow I am always warmer when I am racing.

That's why the park series is so great - the races are cheap and you're not inundated with T shirts.
It's even better if you can get the group rate discount.

You do not have to sign up for all 4 races; you can just show up day of. I think it's $15 per race if you pay each time. This way, you can make sure the weather is decent; they don't always cancel it if it's snowing.

I signed up for all 4. I may only go to 2-3 though. Now lets wish for unseasonably warm weather those days!

I doubt it will happen for the winter, but most of the summer ones closed out for the first time this year.
They do have a 1000 cap in winter (2000 in summer)
