Library classes? What age is appropriate?
I never have off Fridays, but I took off tomorrow and want to take DS to our library (Three Village) Mommy and Me class. The age is birth-15 months.
Now, my question is what do they do during this class? My DS is 13 months and doesn't sit still for a minute. If there are babies there, and all they do is sing nice songs, I wonder if I should just skip it, since I know he'll just be running around like a nut and not sitting still long enough to do the itsy bitsy spider, KWIM? Any advice? It's just a half hour long, but I don't want him to be the "bad" baby if he's running around playing with the heat vents when all the other babies are sitting as they should.

Re: Library classes? What age is appropriate?
Our library has classes from birth-5 years and that class is realy just story time and singing. There are plenty of babies running around (DS walked by 10.5 months and NEVER sat still!!!!)
There were other classes I enjoyed more than this one, like the one year old class and two year old class. BUt its nice way to get out, mingle etc.

Thanks! The next age group is 16-24 months, and I feel like having him crash that class since they will all be more mobile, but he might look delayed since he doesn't talk much and would be very verbally slow for a 24 month old.

Re: Library classes? What age is appropriate?
any age is fine. i was a children'ss librarian and we are used it when babies are crying or walking around during storytime. i just took my DS to a mother goose one and it was adorable. he was the only walking 1 yr old there and was up and around but he loved it and we had a great time. they had little props and songs and he paid attention during those. i say go-if its horrible you can leave. they are free so you don't lose $ some of the classes are so cute!

Most kids do not sit at his age and it will be expected that they move around.
Go check the class for yourself!
There is not much pressure to have kids sitting in chairs at this age. It's really story time and socialization.

Re: Library classes? What age is appropriate?
We are going to try out our first library class soon, I'm actually looking the schedules in nearby libraries right now DS will be 5m next week.
I suspect its not a structured class, more like a GTG with some attempt at structure.

Re: Library classes? What age is appropriate?
My DD's gone to TONS of library storytimes/classes...
She's gone to a couple of different libraries and its pretty similar...they do storytime, sometimes sing, sometimes dance, sometimes a short video, play with things like maracas or scarves
They're fun and its pretty open, you can leave if you know its not working well or whatever
