Light Bleeding/Spotting?

I am 7 weeks pregnant and I had a big scare last Wed. morning...woke up at 1:00 am to use the bathroom and was bleeding bright red blood like a light period. It lasted a couple of hours and was only pink spotting by morning. Dr. Braverman called me as soon as he got my email and said not to worry, that it can be pretty common in early pregnancy...could be caused by a subchorionic hematoma, but he did not see one on Monday's ultrasound. Could also just be irritation to the cervix. He didn't think that it was necessary to get an ultrasound, so I didn't. My next ultrasound is scheduled for tomorrow (Mon). I haven't had anymore bleeding, but I have been still having bright to dark red spotting off and on. I am staying on partial bed rest until my ultrasound on Monday. Even though Dr. Braverman says to take a deep breath and not worry, it is so very hard! Has this happened to anyone else and if so did they put you on bed rest or anything...what was your outcome? I guess that it is concerning me that it seems to go away and then when I awake in the morning there it is again and then sometimes throughout the day. I am so worried about the baby and tomorrow can't come soon enough...trying to stay calm!!!

Wed 10/24...Baby looked fine on ultrasound this past Monday. The doctor did see a Subchorionic Hematoma so that is where the bleeding/spotting is coming from. The good news is that it isn't near the baby and they are hoping that it will resolve quickly. I am on rest for now and go back next Monday to get it rechecked. Thanks for everyone's responses and for helping to ease my mind.

This happened to me. I had a sub hematoma. My doctor didnt put me on bed rest, and said it was quite common. I was also 7w. I'm going to be 18w on Tuesday. I know it's hard, but try to remain positive and calm.

Re: Light Bleeding/Spotting?

Did you just have one time bleeding/spotting or did it last over several days like mine?

Light Bleeding/Spotting?

I had spotting a few times throughout the first trimester. One time it lasted for a few days and I had to wear pads. My doctor said it was completely normal and to just take it easy and drink more water. No bedrest. I will we 23 weeks tomorrow.

Re: Light Bleeding/Spotting?

I've had two different things happen where bleeding/spotting was involved. With my first son, I bled but had no cramping. Everything was fine, it was a subchorionic bleed. It scared the crap out of me though!

This last pregnancy i just knew something was wrong...I not only spotted/lightly bled but it was accompanied by bad cramps like a period. Ended up being an ectopic pregnancy.

And cramping with bleeding doesn't always mean a miscarriage BUT its something to be more concerned about.

I'm sure in your case you're ok. And i know this is of no help but if god forbid something was wrong, there isn't anything you can do so early on. You just have to be positive and know that it can be so so normal to have some spotting. I've known women who bleed their whole pregnancies and end up having healthy babies! Just keep an eye on cramping. If that happens don't hesitate to go to the ER. It's worth it for peace of mind!! I did that with my first son, i bled SO badly...and there he was, moving around :) Good luck to you!!!

I had spotting around 7w and it wasn't a SCH. The dr never saw where the bleeding was coming from, but it resolved itself and I'm now 24w!
