I like dark and I also like medium barn wood looking floors.

I will say, I liked dark a lot more before I got a light colored heavily shedding dog

I LOVE dark hardwood, but refused to get it in my home bc of the upkeep. It's just too much. We have light colored floors throughout the house bc it's easier to upkeep. I'd be swiffering and mopping every day if I had dark wood, and I just don't have time for that every day.

I have dark wood and I love the way it looks but holy crap it's a PITA to upkeep. I sweep/swiffer like 6 times a day. You see EVERYTHING.

Next time Im going lighter def.

I have dark, I like the look of it but it shows every speck of dust & every scratch. I wish I had gotten a lighter stain.

Love the look of dark but knew better from my SIL warning me not to do it lol she's always with the swiffer in her hands.

We have medium. And couldn't be happier. With 2 dogs, one being very big and hairy, you don't see anything on them. And they are pretty worn in spots from her nails.

We have medium in 95% of our house. Our guest bedroom was renovated before many of the other rooms, we did very dark floors in that room. It's unreal how that room looks dirty so quickly and it's rarely used. If our dog (who sheds like a beast) sets foot in there the floor looks like it's covered in her fur.
The rest of our house including kitchen and one of our bathrooms has wide plank quarter sawn white oak with medium stain and a matte finish.
The floors have to be really dirty for them to look bad. We have a bunch of scratches now from the pets and chairs, sand , etc but the scratches are hard to see.

we loved dark so we did dark and now I complain all the time because you se EVERYTHING on them. It could be a small crumb, dust or even a strand of hair and you will see it crystal clear. I am always vacuuming. That being said I think we still would have done dark regardless bc we love it more than light.

I love dark, but if you go that route be prepared to be cleaning every day if not more. I have dark laminate and geez, it's an endless job keeping them from showing every spec of dust and dirt.

Go light. Dark is a ***** to keep clean. We have dark and I swear my next house will have light.

Like everyone else has stated - I love dark wood floors, but the upkeep would be too much for my anal OCD self.

I would do medium, I'm not a fan of light floors in the least.

I always said I wanted dark wood floors. They're so beautiful and they're my absolute favorite!

BUT....

We ended up moving out of state and renting a home for a year that had dark hardwood floors. I was SO excited. But now, I would NEVER choose to have dark wood floors if the choice were up to me. They are incredibly difficult to keep clean. They show every little bit of dust/dirt/footprints. And I'm kind of a neat freak, so it drove me crazzzzzzy!

We just had our floors refinished and we went with medium...maybe even on the lighter side. We chose golden oak and they look awesome!

I love dark but I would probably go medium because of the upkeep of cleaning the dark.

We loved the idea of dark floors but then decided to keep it neutral with just a clear coat. We have painted (dark brown) stair treads and I will be the umpteenth person to say that it shows everything. Dust, hair etc. With kids I'm happy we went lighter rather than dark, in addition to the cost and "trendiness factor" of the darker. But damn those dark floors do look great :)

We just put in very dark hardwood floors in our downstairs (we have a hi ranch) they are gorgeous!!! Absolutely stunning. We also stained the bedrooms dark as well. Again I LOVE the look- however hate hate the upkeep. I Swiffer vacuum and mop 10x a day!!! They show every single thing. However look amazing
