LIJ Hospital Tour tonight **UPDATED**
Tonight I have the LIJ Hospital Tour with DH at 6:30PM. Has anyone here done this yet? Is it a lot of walking? I know walking is good but standing still KILLS my back and I can't do it for too long (I'm 36 weeks tomorrow). What do they give you a tour of? Will they take us over to the NICU? I hope I never have to go over there but I have a friend who's son is there and if we go over there I want to let her know.
TIA! Also, is there any questions that I should ask?
UPDATED: Back from the tour. It was a little informative but nothing too crazy. They showed us the waiting area, check in, triage, L&D, PP room, recovery if you have a c-section, and nursery. What I didn't know is if you are trying to do a natural birth they have 2 tubs for women to use but of course it's first come first serve. When you check in you just have to make your wishes known. Also I was happy to hear that they have formula in the hospital if you decide not to BF. They use Similac but have others just in case of allergies. The rooms are REALLY nice (I've been there before so I knew what they looked like already). DH was happy to find out that they have delivery food menus at the nurses station and that you can just tell the delivery place to meet you in the lobby of Katz hospital, they can't come up to the floors. They said visiting hours are 1PM-8PM but they really have an open door policy. She said that you really have to go by whatever rules you want for the visiting hours, which stinks a little bit since I know my friends and family will just show up without calling but we're going to try our hardest to keep it controlled.
Feel free to ask any questions if I am missing something. If she went over it in the tour I'll try to answer it.

Yes, I'll be at Katz. SIL delivered there back in September so I've been to the new wing. It's GORGEOUS!! I'll update either tonight or tomorrow depending on how I feel when I get home.

Re: LIJ Hospital Tour tonight
if its Katz in new hyde park, i did the tour. they meet in the lobby and show you where you go when you are in labor. they show you the triage section (which is where they check you to determine if you are going to stay or be sent home) then they showed you a l&d room where we stayed for 10 minutes or so. people would ask questions and just look around. there are seats (maybe 2-3) in the l&d room so you can sit down while in there. then we went to the room where you stay for the few days after you give birth and that was pretty much in and out, but again there are seats in there if you need to sit. they did not bring us to the nicu but pointed out that it is a closed pathway that connects the two buildings.

OK GREAT!! Thank you so much for the info!! We actually basically know most of it but I think the information they provide might be the most important part of the tour.

Re: LIJ Hospital Tour tonight **UPDATED**
thanks for updating! I delivered there 2 years ago before the remodel so I cannot wait to see the new wing!
I also had heard that you could order food from the hospital kitchen on demand- did they say that on the tour at all?

She didn't say anything about ordering hospital food on demand sorry. She just said that they won't serve you in L&D but once you get in a room you will get food then.

they definitely do NOT enforce the visiting hour policy! (which is good and bad) DD was born at 5am...we had visitors starting at 9am until about 10pm. my friend had people there until 1:30am! since irs private rooms they really dont care as long as your guests stay in your room

They can't "enforce" visiting hours. There is a new law that went into effect that basically says visitors are welcomed at any time. The hospital will not give times for visitors anymore bc of this law HOWEVER if you, the patient wishes to restrict visitation you have every right to inform a member of your care team and thn they will enact/adhere to those wishes.
BTW I work there and it's an amazing facility.
