LIJ vs. North Shore vs. Winthrop
Hi Everyone, I don't really post that often but I value reading everyone's advice and opinions when I can. I'm currently pregnant and due in March!
For various reasons I think I am going to be switching OBs and I wanted to get some advice on LIJ vs. North Shore vs. Winthrop (feel free to mention if you recommend a specific dr too but I know there are lots of those threads). I know LIJ and North Shore-LIJ have/are going to have single rooms but I'm looking to see about past delivery experiences, etc and any advice/opinions is greatly appreciated! TIA!

All are great hospitals to give birth. Winthrop just got a new birthing wing done and Ive heard it's really, really nice!
I say you cant go wrong with either.
I am giving birth at LIJ and my dr is Dr. Clifford Goldstein located in Great Neck.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'm still having a hard time deciding whether or not to switch from Winthrop to North Shore or LIJ. My OB is very nice (very popular on these boards) but I've waited 1+hour every time I've gone.

I'll be at Winthrop because of their NICU, so North Shore was out. I never really considered LIJ.

I just delivered at north shore and found it amazing that every room was private. apparently that is not the case everywhere else. The room was great and so nice that dw could stay with me every night.

I delivered at Winthrop in April & loved it there.. nurses & docs were all great! I was skeptical of having any residents work with me, but every single one of them were excellent. That being said, I've heard all the hospitals you mentioned are great. Just know that Winthrop's NICU is outstanding, so I wouldn't really choose anywhere else. (My daughter was there for a week...really nice). And yes, L&D is beautiful: flat-screen tv's in every room!

I've heard that as well, but couldn't swear to it. I *think* LIJ is one of, if not the best, hospitals for treating infants/children. Regardless, both LIJ and North Shore are part of the same healthcare system so I don't think you can go wrong there.
A very good friend of mine delivered all of her children @ North Shore and was very happy.
I don't know anybody personally who delivered @ Winthrop, but I do know that it is a teaching hospital which means you may have groups of med students coming in and out to evaluate you. Not saying that's necessarily a bad thing, but it may be something to think about (drove my friend crazy when she delivered @ Stony Brook).

LIJ is a teaching hospital as well.. and by teaching, its not medical students, these are final year residents, not technically students and among the three, I think North Shore is the only one with out residents.

All three have fabulous reputations. I liked Winthrop. I worked with Garden City OB/GYN and used Melanie Sumersille (a midwife).

I delivered at LIJ and DD was in the NICU, I would totally deliver there again. The nurses and doctors were all very nice and accomodating to your needs.

I delivered my at LIJ in June 2010 and absolutely loved everyone I encountered. Sure, the first night I had to share a room but the second night I was solo. I was so tired and excited at the same time, I wasnt even thinking about a roommate- didnt make a difference to me.

I delivered my ds at Winthrop 2 years ago and will deliver #2 there in a few weeks. I have family that practice medicine and winthrop is their hospital of choice and I think that says a lot. All though I've heard good things about all of them. Good Luck!

my twins were born last week. One is at North shores nicu. and one is at LIJ cohens children's hospital bc she needed surgery. both are outstanding!!! lij's cohens has a stronger surgical area.
