I've heard that suicide is almost genetic...The Hemingways have 5 suicides to their family...

Ernest also had a son who basically drank himself to death (after numerous sex change operations).

So tragic. Mental illness definitely runs in familes. So sad.

Did he really have more than one operation? I had no idea. He also had something like 8 children before he had the sex change operation. Also, after having the operation to beomce a woman, didn't he then marry his ex-wife? Maybe I'm mixing up my facts... (Sorry to go off topic)

it's so frightening too...when you come from that. you never know what you will pass on to your children.
there are many forms of mental illness that are genetically passed down.
just terrible

I'm a Hemingway nut...
He was living with his last ex-wife, Ida, when he died. She claims they remarried in Washington State a few years before his death. He did have 8 children before the operation(s).
Apparently, he had a breast implant in the early 90's, then removed it around '95, and then later had genital surgery as he was placed in the women's jail in Key Biscayne.
Also, apparently his children fought the will because they contested that Florida didn't recognize same-sex marriages at that time. The will was settled amicably, but he had originally left everything to Ida.
