Just curious what you all think about this?? It's a little shocking but I don't have a problem with it. Interesting dilemma though...

honestly i don't even know what i think about that...

it's one thing for him to be able to find love and experience sex one his own, it's another thing for his mom to go out and try to find it for him

and i don't really understand why she feels like he is missing out on so much by not having sex.

and i would love to know how much he understands (it mentioned nothing in the article about how mentally disabled he is - sorry if that's the wrong term).

I have a problem with the fact that she's bringing this story to the media and--I'm sure--essentially turning her family into a laughing stock for a lot of people.

Eh ........I think my biggest problem is that she's taken this to the media -

But the whole think kind of irks me - Unless she feared he was being taken advantage of, couldn't handle a situation, or couldn't comprehend the consequences of his actions, IMO there is NO reason for a mother to be that involved in her adult child's sex life .........

Why is your 21 year old son's sex life ANY of your business? ESPECIALLY in regards to whether or not he's getting any ???

B. Most Down Syndrome males are sterile so why is she hoping that he some day becomes a father?

I have a problem with the fact that she would pay a prostitute or a brothel just so he can have sex.

I think it's a little weird that she is forcing the issue so much...

I think it's a little too early to declare that he won't ever be able to find sex on his own. There are PLENTY of 21 year olds without Down syndrome that have not had sex yet by choice or because they cannot find a willing partner.

ok this article bothered me....

I am a psychologist and work with adults with developmental disabilities including Down syndrome...sex education is a big component of my therapy including reducing sexual abuse, discussing public vs. private behaviors, encuraging healthy sexuality, reducing the risk of sexual abuse (big one), and avoiding sexual misunderstandings.

like many of you said taking this to the public/media is my biggest issue, sex is a private thing, and taking this out to the public/ media is not a healthy way of promoting positive sexual behaviors, unless the woman has other motives...people with down syndrome have similar emotional characteristics, need and wants as you and I so i guess the question would be if you would do the same for your son and daughter who does not have a disability if they could not find a sex partner... I would not.
