Like your job a lot but not your boss at all?
How do you deal? I love all my co-workers, enjoy the work, make a decent salary but my boss (actually the entire administrationof all men) are aZZholes.
Anyone in the same boat? Tips for me?

Re: Like your job a lot but not your boss at all?
i think it all depends on how closely the interaction is between you and your boss.
i used to be in your shoes. loved my job every time i was doing something that didn't involve my boss (ie - if another department head asked for my help with something and then i'd be working with him and wouldn't get my boss involved until the very end, other than just let her know i'm working on whatever it was). I liked my co-workers. I made decent money and the company treats their employees really well (the best benefits i've ever heard of!)
but my boss was on top of me all the time. despite the fact that i had more experience than her, she didn't give me free reign on ANYTHING (again, unless it was from another dept head that was higher up on the chain than her). at face value she was nice but a bad boss who had no idea what she was doing. also a person who had absolutely no morales and some serious self esteem problems which were taken out on me. my solution was to look for another job. she had me ousted from the company unjustifiably before i found one, but now i'm in a place that i LOVE LOVE LOVE. And the truth is, I never would've found this job if it weren't for my last one where I was miserable.
HTH! Chin up!

Re: Like your job a lot but not your boss at all?
i know EXACTLY how you feel! i really enjoy my work, love my coworkers, decent pay, and its only 10 mins from my house. but my boss is incredibly hard to deal with. she talks to people as if they were complete idiots, totally overloads me with work because she has no concept of how long projects really take, and blames all of her employees when SHE makes a mistake!
what i do is just smile. i always remind myself that its HER life not mine. i work to live....i dont live to work. shes the one who works 15 hour days and has basically chained herself to the business. not me. i put 110% into everything i do, but i leave all that stuff at my desk when i leave and go home.
also, you gotta remember that the job market out there stinks. so if your job s tolerable, i would take it for as long as possible. and remember, the grass isnt always greener on the other side. you may end up with a boss/bosses that are worse than what you've got right now.

wow I could have written this post word for word except my drive is alot longer. My boss is the same exact way and as soon as the market improves my azz is getting my resume out to a bunch of new companies. It really wears on me though. Im trying to have the attitude like you said above but Im a little overly sensitive and take things personal.

Thanks for sharing this because it's so true. Another thing I keep reminding myself----it's not just me my boss(es) are like this to. They do it to everyone, sometimes others worse.

Me too- I could also have written this word for word. I loathe who I work for. She is horrid to me, and has been ever since I got pregnant in summer of 07. The market is tough, and there are days I just want to walk out and never look back. But the thought of eating into our savings just to pay bills because of this idiot makes me sick. So I am hoping for a new job, soon. But it takes its toll on me. emotionally and physically. I am highly sensitive and cannot "shake things off"

i try sooooo hard not to take things personally. but what always keeps me from freaking out is this...i think "what if this were my company? and i was trusting all of these people with my money, my livelihood, what pays my mortgage and feeds my children???". and i realize that if it were me i would EXPECT people to perform at an A+ level, kwim. so i try to put myself in their shoes and keep reminding myself that theyre human beings too. it definitely sux to get treated badly, but theres no job out there thats 100% perfect.
HTH!

Good points. I also try to focus on the perks I do have. AND, I guess I could also always leave after my ML. I am thankful that I have options, experience, contacts and a very marketable degree at least!!!

{{waves hand frantically in the air}} Me! My admins didn't start out being idiots; it was a slow progression. But I'm at my wits end. I want to look for another job, but with the economy... I'm not sure that's going to happen.
Just do the best job you can, and tune them out when possible.

Re: Like your job a lot but not your boss at all?
Me. He is just not the kind of guy I can bounce things off of. Everytime I go into his office, its like an inquisition with an accustatory attitude. So I just avoid going in there and learning from his knowlege (he is experienced AND brilliant) because I always feel like an idiot afterwards.
Even this morning, I wanted to ask him for some strategies- and I just erased the email I was writing because I just didn't want it to open a can of worms.
What I did about it- once i got a scathing review, I started looking for a new job. Two wemen started at my office adn we all have the same experience- so I know its not me. But I can't continue on like this.
J ended up getting an offer from a firm that does the same thing I do- but with different people who want to mentor and nurture the assoicates, not bully them.
