Re: Lindenhurst
holy mother of god....the answers people give around here blow my effing mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I KNOW its opinion, but someone on here MIGHT LIVE THERE. Can't negative opinions be said tactfully?
My opinion is I have a coworker that lives in lindenhurst (near outback) & she loves it....she's pretty picky & owns several homes on LI in different towns but chose lindenhurst for her family. Other than that I know nothing.

Re: Lindenhurst
I used to live in Lindenhurst South of Montauk Hwy on Arctic. I think it is such a cute area. The houses are close together lots are small but seems a lot of people are renovating and it is really cute down there. Such a beachy feel. There is a great childrens park. North of Sunrise is not as good from my experience and Wellwood Ave can be a PITA during rush hour. But I was just there the other day and the town has vastly improved since I lived there(the village part I mean)

Oh my Lord was that uncalled for!!!. I just bought a house in Lindenhurst and honestly I cant say that it is "Little ghetto and bad schools. Im sure some areas are a little nicer then others, But to say that was just rude.
My daughter goes to the Elementary School as well as my nieces who goes to the High School.
For future reference what parts of Lindenhurst are you referring to so I know to stear clear

Re: Lindenhurst
Lindenhurst is a big town and thats why there are so many different types of people/ income. South of Montauk has close to million dollar homes, and in other area's you can find one for 300,000-so there is a wide variety of homes to choose from. Because of the size of the town the SD is bigger and isnt necassarily bad, but bigger and more diverse. I dont have money to buy a house in dix hills or even babylon for that matter so i am concidering lindenhurst. I would be cautious where lindenhurst and Wyandanch come close to each other, but other than that, Its worth looking at! Good Luck!

Re: Lindenhurst
Sorry, wasn't trying to start anything. I was afraid of posting for this very reason.
I asked simply because DH and I are going to look at homes there this weekend. I know people who live there, I just don't know much about the neighborhood or school district. Thanks for the info.

Maybe you should think before you type. The schools are not bad. The "SINS" label they recently received relates to special needs students not the general pop.
We live in the Meridale park area on over 1/4 acre. We're in the village on a quiet, tree lined, well kept street. Yes there are lower income areas but they are all well kept and far from "ghetto".
We're thrilled that we chose Lindenhurst and can especially recommend living in the village.

I don't think you started anything, you didn't make a rude response.
My brother and SIL have lived in Lindenhurst since 2000. They are on a really well-maintained, quiet street. Their house has more then doubled in value since they bought it 5.5 years ago. They have been really happy there.

Re: Lindenhurst
I live in Lindenhurst and LOVE IT.
Although I have to say there are NO $300K houses...if anyone finds one , let me know so I can buy it. We have been looking to buy here ( we rent now) and the best we found is $425 and thats more of a starter home. The average price between SS and Sunrise is $350-$525K. Most of the lower end price houses are not desirable though ...South of the train tracks and closer to the water your looking at much more.
My cousin just paid $330 for a house souht of montauk, but it had to be gutted and redone, but the Venice area over there is a GREAT neighborhood to live in....
My mom, my aunts , uncles, etc have lived here all their lives and I always knew I would end up here as an adult. Theres very low crime, the school district could be better, but the elementary levels are GREAT, its the High school that doesnt rate the highest, but its very crime free.
As we have been discussing on all the boards diversity, I would love to see it a little more diverse here, but I feel safe and really like living here.
