Line cutting

Is it just me? Every. Single. Event. That I take my children to that involves waiting on line, we are inevitably cut in front of by people - ADULTS - who “run into” someone they know in front of me. Lines are torturous with small children and it’s really infuriating me lately. I went to a fall festival where my kids and I waited in direct sweltering sunlight for 45 minutes for a popular attraction. There was a woman in front of me with her daughter the entire time. Just as we approach the attraction, a friend comes over to say hi. Next thing I know, that friend and her daughter are in the line. The friend leaves the daughter with the woman in Front of me and comes back, I kid you not, with another mom and three children. I don’t say anything initially because I’m thinking maybe they’re just hanging out and have no intention of flagrantly cutting in front of the dozens of people who have been waiting an hour. Oh no, but they did. I had enough, and confronted them. I asked them if they saw that there was a line. They explained that they were “all together” and that they had been on a line for another attraction while their spot was being held. I told them that was ridiculous, I was behind one woman with one child and that it was incredulous that they would think it was ok to slip in with two more adults and 4(!) children when there were people waiting in line for an hour. They said I was crazy and did a lot of pearl clutching and feigned indignation. I’m honestly so sick of it. It’s the next day and I am still bothered by their crassness and lack of respect and entitlement. I told them they were setting a bad example for their kids. Seriously - if you do this, you’re wrong. You just are. Rant over! For now ;).

Re: Line cutting

It hasn't really happened to me much but that's probbly because I don't really do lines and crowds. I avoid at all costs.
However, I can totally see it happening with the way society is today- it's all about ME ME ME!
So yeah I hear you.
And it would piss me off too.
I'm glad you said something.
And LOL at the pearl clutching comment. I like that one.

On a lighter note- this is a classic line cutting prank from Impractical Jokers. It has been a classic moment for fans of the show.
But it can really be a social experiment to see how much people can get away with before getting called out!
Watch this...

Re: Line cutting

I had this happen to me. It is one thing if it the rest of your family. I.e. mom or dad on line while other parent has small kids off to the side. But it is entirely different when it is a huge group with the situation you are describing. I said something to the teens that tried to do it. We were at a resort with our kids and they have a water elevator. So this group of 15 girls would have 14 go on the ride, then have one wait so they could all go again while no one else could use the ride. I told them all they had to go on the back of the line because I was wised up to their game.

I would be super annoyed but I am not sure I would've said anything. I would have complained loudly to my husband though! It is total BS. I do understand if a parent holds the place in line for their child at things like this. I wouldn't be upset about that. But clearly that was not the case here.

It annoys me but I wouldn’t have said anything. To be honest I am not waiting an hour for anything like that but if I had been waiting an hour what’s a few more people, in the grand scheme of things not worth a confrontation. I honestly don’t even go anywhere this time of year because of all the crowds and shit everywhere. Try to do simple pumpkin picking with the kids and everything’s a big “fall festival.” I remember once having a 30 min line for face painting. It kind of takes the fun out of anything...

I get annoyed also and understand your frustration. I always want to say something but my husband would get upset if I do and I want to set a good example for my children (I know it would get ugly).

Over the summer we went to Adventure land and the woman and 1 child were on line behind us. Her husband and another daughter just got off a ride and joined them on line (she was older, about 13). Two seconds later he was searching his pockets and couldn’t find his phone. Although I felt bad he lost his phone and was also karma.

Thanks for the reply :). But this was like a single ride harnessed trampoline and each kid got 5 a minute turn. With the time it took to harness each kid this added 30 minutes to our wait time. Which I really think is profoundly out of line. And they came just as my kids were almost at the front. So they were so excited to be next and then incredibly disappointed. And I agree if it was a family situation I wouldn’t have cared, or if it was just one kid. The fact that the woman who cut initially had the audacity to wave in another woman with three kids...well I couldn’t let that go. I have no regrets about calling them out. I’m just baffled that people have evolved to the point of being such huge a$$holes (although I shouldn’t be lol).

That would infuriate me and I would definitely have said something. Especially in that situation you described. If no one calls anyone out on line cutting, people will just keep doing it.

Re: Line cutting

Definitely infuriating and so wrong. And think it's great that you said something and that you set a great example for your kids - they should learn that it's ok to be assertive and speak up when something is not right.

I think it's great that you said all the things I fantasize about saying but never do. It's definitely infuriating.

Did anyone else on the line jump in when you spoke up? I might never initiate a confrontation, but I would definitely jump in if someone else did to help lol!

Re: Line cutting

Ugh, so frustrating.
We had gone one year to a festival and we were on line for face painting. That's ALL my DD wanted to do, So, of course, it starts getting really cloudy and about to pour. Just as we were next in line - someone comes over to the lady in front of us and now SHE'S next in line. It started getting really windy and the guy that was running the face paint booth (they had two face painters) was saying that the weather was getting too dangerous.
He said the last one of the night would be the lady in front of me. He apologized but I kind of begged him if one of them could do DD really quickly. They did, but I was so pissed and if DD didn't get her face painted, I would've screamed.

Good for you for saying something! That is so damn rude! And let me tell you, if someone had called me out like that, I would have been mortified and gotten off the line. I would not have gone back and forth with you and trust me, I have a big mouth, but I know when I'm wrong.

I personally have not experienced line cutting like you described but yesterday there were little kids inching up on the clown making balloon animals while we had been there for 20 minutes and I was like "Hey kids, lines back there!" If I had to wait one more friggan minute for my kid to get a balloon poodle I was going to freak. Plus it popped in about 3 minutes.

not just you. happens all the time!
we were at a socuting event on saturday. the volunteer kids running the maze were not very assertive. my kid is standing online and a whole group of kids starts inching ahead of him. so i loudly said" DS watch you place in line. some kids are due and don't know how to wait their turn" the kids were astounded and walked to the back of the line.
i've done the same at DS's cousin's birthday party as all the kids were cutting each other off for the pinata.

i never have a problem calling people out for things like that. rules are meant to be followed (unless they are actually hurting society) not broken.

I feel your pain. I don’t think you are wrong for saying something here...
They were next and then there goes another 20 minutes...

I would've said something also. I'm the person who calls people out for cutting a five minute line in a grocery store. It would have infuriated me as well. I'm not surprised they tried to defend themselves. Good for you. You'd have been more upset at yourself had you said nothing at all.

That's so annoying. I would've said something too. They got away with it because of all the wimps behind you not wanting to speak up.
Hate it.
